MASSAGE

Swedish: The most well-known type of massage. If you have never had a massage before, or are looking for something relaxing, this is the perfect place to start.  Swedish Massages are full body massages using anywhere from feather-light to extreme deep pressure.  This is typically done at a slow, gentle pace, with some variances based on the individual Therapist's style.  The skin is lubricated with natural oils while various massage strokes are incorporated that warm up the muscles and release tension.

Deep Tissue: If you require deeper focused work and don't require a full body massage, you may want to request a Deep Tissue. A variation of Swedish Massage, some clients will comment on momentary discomfort, but then complete relief of their muscle stiffness and pain.

Sports: Although widely popular among athletes, this is not just for the intensively active.  Those with injuries, chronic pain, restricted range of motion or who are beginning a new work-out regime, may want to consider this modality.  I generally concentrate on specific problem areas, stimulating circulation of blood and lymph fluids.  In some cases trigger point therapy is used to break down the "knots" and stretching is incorporated to help with range of motion.

Therapeutic/Combo: Since we all know that each individual has specific needs, a combination or "Therapeutic Treatment" is often times recommended for clients.  By combining various techniques I can better ensure that the total body experience felt by the client is not only relaxing, but addresses specific areas of concern.  Whether it is a combination of Swedish and Sports or Deep Tissue with Acupressure, be sure to discuss your needs with me prior to your session.

Recovery After Exercise or Strenuous Physical Training For athletes and fitness enthusiasts who push their bodies to the limits on a regular basis, massage can be one of the most beneficial post-training routines. Not only does an after workout rubdown help release muscle tension and any pain that may have built up: it can actually increase muscular recovery time. Massage administered after strenuous exercise decreases inflammation and promotes muscle recovery. For those taking part in a demanding regimen of physical activity, the benefits of massage therapy go much further than just post-workout relaxation.

How Your Brain’s Map Of The Body Affects Your Scoliosis. Body schema refers to a representation of the positions of body parts in space, which is updated during body movement. When the schema does not match the reality, then the brain’s incorrect image of the body’s position can reinforce the scoliosis pattern. We see an expression of this quite often when parents bring their child with scoliosis in for an evaluation. They often say comment about their daughter’s chronically poor posture by saying something like “I’m always tell her to sit up straight”, to which their daughter replies: “But I AM sitting up straight!” That’s because in her brain the map tells her that her spine is straight so she is sitting up straight, when in reality she is not. That habitual disassociation between what’s real and what’s imagined can lead to progression of a scoliosis and must be addressed in treatment. Also autonomic function has found to be dysfunctional in scoliosis with an increase in the sympathetic tone affecting the imbalances in bone growth and should be addressed, especially in growing children.

Benefits of Massage for Frozen Shoulder Massage therapy is very beneficial in treating frozen shoulder as it increases the blood circulation to the injured region and also reduces the formation of scar tissue. Regular massage should be done to reduce the muscle stiffness. The pain and stiffness usually gets relieved after several massage treatments.
