Their reward is a league semi final tie away to the impressive & unbeaten Old Belvedere who have been unbeaten in cup & league all season. A daunting task for the Malahide lads but the best time to win is when no one expects it. It should be a great game today so tune in here for up to minute commentary of this U13 div1 top 4 playoff with the winners taking on either Terenure or Clontarf in the Division1 final. Malahide U13s put in an impressive performance against visiting Welsh side Bethesda in an entertaining match at Malahide this afternoon. Fresh from beating Portarlington, the Welsh side were keen to remain unbeaten on their Irish tour but this talented Malahide bunch had other ideas. Malahide started strongly & pinned Bethesda back in their own 22. With forceful rucking from Daragh Fitzpatrick & Colm Nicholl and with Max Reid back to his swashbuckling best, Malahide controlled the ruck and then moved the ball out to the marauding Cian Russell who burst through 3 tacklers, offloads to Daniel Sutton who fixes the defender, then released Ross Keogh who burned down the wing & ram in under the posts for the opening try. Bethesda came fighting back & it took some great tackling by Senan Hogan and the in-form Conor Culleton to keep the welsh lads at bay. Malahide countered and Ben Steers, playing his best match to date, broke through the centre and offloaded to Cian Russell who crashed through the defence to touch down for try no2. 10-0 Malahide. Malahide were now in full flow with Cian Murphy moving the ball quick off the scrum and Jed Tormey making a superb break through the Welsh defence only to be denied 5metres from the line but Malahide maintained the pressure & Russell managed to barge his way over for an opportunistic try. 15-0. James Kavanagh was effective in the ruck and Colm Nicholl was impressive in his return to the Malahide jersey. He offloaded to the forceful Ben Steers who rode two tackles & released Conor Culleton to edge over the line for try no.3. 20-0 Malahide, the tricky wind proving too difficult for all the conversion kickers. A shell shocked Bethesda finally started to string some passes together and their quicksilver full back made a great break through the centre & moved it quickly to the winger who surely had to score but Max Reid & Conor Culleton combined to somehow keep him out. James Cotter then made two great hits to keep the welsh out but they kept pressing & eventually released the winger to touch down in the corner. 20-5 Malahide. From the kick off, Cotter grabs the ball & makes a great break, offloading to Sam Finlay who beats 2 & gets it out to Daniel Sutton who cuts back through the centre & Cian Russell picks up the loose ball & buries the defenders with a crashing run through the cover to score his second try.25-5. In the second half, Bethesda threw everything at Malahide but David Power was strong in the ruck & tackled well and Michael Walsh made a great hit out on the wing and Hogan was making hits for fun in the centre. Killian Brennan made a great break down the wing to nearly skip past the cover but was tackled well. The welsh kicked clear but Adam Doyle retrieved well and moved it wide to Cian Russell who broke Welsh hearts & minds and a few bodies along the way to crash over for a super individual try. 30-5. Bethesda responded by pinning Malahide in their 22 & it took great tackling by Max Reid & James Cotter to keep the line intact. Malahide elected to play the ball out of defence and were rewarded when Daniel Sutton left his opposing number for dead with a great line break & sidestepped the full back to touch down under the posts. He successfully converted to make it 37-5 Malahide who were in complete control. From the kickoff, Ben Steers rucked over well to steal the ball and Malahide moved up the pitch but the Welsh tackled & turned over to bring the ball close to the Malahide line but when Conor Culleton latched onto a loose pass,he had the pace & power to race the length of the field for the try of the match. That was that & Malahide brought Bethesda's unbeaten tour run to an abrupt end. A sporting game from two sporting teams and it was great to see both sides chatting in the clubhouse afterwards as they tackled Mary Hogan's supreme Rice Krispie Buns & Jarlath Doyle's home baked fairy cakes and the tonnes of sandwiches generously donated by the parents. Man of the match was try scoring hero, Cian Russell who put in an impressive performance but the overall team play was what really tore apart their Welsh counterparts. Next up is a tricky cup tie on Fri night under lights away to Greystones so the lads will need all of Margaret Finlay's Pineapple slices to be on form for that crucial match. Final score: Malahide 42 Bethesda 5 Team: Daragh Fitzpatrick, James Kavanagh, Colm Nicholl, Ben Steers, David Power, Max Reid, Conor Culleton, Cian Russell, Cian Murphy, Jed Tormey, Sam Finlay, Ross Keogh, Daniel Sutton, James Cotter, Senan Hogan, Michael Walsh, Adam Doyle, Killian Brennan

Malahide do enough to see off Barnhall in U13 cup clash. Malahide U13s put in a jittery performance in the opening round of the U13 cup against a feisty Barnhall side at a sunny Seabury pitch but ultimately had enough firepower to score when it mattered to overcome the Leixlip side and advance to the last 16 in the cup. Barnhall laid down an early marker with some dangerous breaks to gain good territory but great rucking by Max Reid and Noah Pedersen stifled the Barnhall attack. Their pacey winger was to cause problems all day and an early break past 3 tacklers nearly saw him through but Senan Hogan made a great tackle & Jed Tormey managed to kick clear to avert the danger. Barnhall's stylish full back retrieved the ball & jinked through several despairing Malahide tackles only for David Power to stop him in his tracks with a super hit. From the ruck, Dan O'Leary passed out to Cian Russell who broke through the Barnhall defence like a wrecking ball, leaving a trail of destruction behind him and touched down for the opening try. Daniel Sutton with a cool conversion made it 7-0 Malahide and all looked good. Barnhall responded with vigour however and a great break by the full back released their tricky winger who nearly got in at the corner but Ross Keogh made a try saving tackle to keep the Malahide line intact. David Power leapt high to retrieve the lineout but a dodgy decision by Ref Murphy gives Barnhall the scrum. They move it fast across their backline, making good territory after some sloppy Malahide tackling. The centre is nearly in but James Cotter with a super tackle brings him crashing down and with Daragh Fitzpatrick ferocious in the breakdown, Malahide win it back & O'Leary moves it to Tormey who makes a wonderful skip pass to James Barry who conjours up a magical run down the wing and is nearly in but Barnhall tackle well to ground the Malahide flyer but he makes a great offload to Cian Russell who barges over for try number 2. Ross Keogh is unlucky with the conversion. 12-0 Malahide & a rather harsh scoreline for all Barnhall's efforts but in cup rugby, on the scoreboard is where it counts. From the kickoff, Malahide gain possession as John Ryan clears out the ruck, taking Man, ball and all to get the ball back to scrum half O'Leary who finds Cian Murphy who hands it to Aaron Murray who makes an audacious break through the middle, beating 4 defenders and nearly gets over but is held up just short by 3 relieved Barnhall tacklers. Great counter attacking by Barnhall as they move the ball at lightning speed with and great passing movements, stretching the malahide defence. Despite good tackles by the tough John Ryan, Hogan and Murray, a brilliant release by the full back to the winger allows him to run over and touch down under the posts for a super try which is well converted. 12-7 and this Cup match has just come to life. From the restart, Barnhall win a scrum on their 10m line. Malahide put good pressure on the scrum, forcing Barnhall to back pedal but they move it fast across the backline to break into Malahide's 22 but James Cotter makes a pounding tackle on the centre to steal the ball back for Malahide. That's gotta hurt as the tough Barnhall centre dusts himself down & resumes. Malahide counter with the powerful Sutton breaking forward, releasing Ross Keogh who puts on the afterburners to fly down the wing, heading for the try line like a man possessed. He is superbly tackled though by the Barnhall full back who has been very impressive so far. As Noah Pedersen rucks over to protect the ball, Cian Murphy moves it out to Harvey Coffey who takes the tackle and cleverly offloads to David Power who breaks two tackles but cant get the offload. Jed Tormey picks up the loose ball & breaks down the wing but elects to kick through rather than keep ball in hand with 2 men outside him. The covering player wins the race to the ball before James Barry & Barnhall are awarded the Penalty for the tackler not releasing the player. The whistle blows for half time, allowing the crowd to draw breath after a hectic and entertaining opening half with Malahide in front 12-7. Malahide start the 2nd half with real purpose with outhalf Tormey pinning Barnhall in their own 22 with a series of well placed kicks. Asair Martin Aragin in for the injured Daragh Fitzpatrick helps force the turnover with good work at the scrum but Penalty to Barnhall for offside. Barnhall move it wide looking for the gap but James Barry helped by Max Reid unceremoniously bundle the elusive Barnhall winger over the touchline. Scrum Barnhall as the ball doesn't go in straight at the lineout but Malahide turn the scrum and Jed Tormey plays a clever inside ball to Daniel Sutton who makes a great line break & he unselfishly feeds the ball to Cian Russell who in turn offloads beautifully to James Cotter who runs a great line to literally crash in under the post. While Cotter gets treatment for the collision, it looks like the post has come out the worst after colliding with Malahide's man of steel. Tormey converts to make it 19-7. From the restart,Conor Culleton makes a great break through the Barnhall defence, offloading perfectly to Daniel Sutton who makes a great break down the wing & returns the pass to Culleton. Super support play from Malahide now and Culleton glides his way into Barnhall's 22 and makes a great lunge for the line but a super covering tackle by Barnhalls full back and centre holds him up inches from the line. Malahide win the penalty though & O'Leary feeds Cian Russell and you will not stop this man from 5 yards as he knocks over defenders like skittles and grounds the ball one handed to complete a super hat trick of tries. Tormey converts, 26-7 Malahide. From the restart, its all Malahide with Senan Hogan showing great footwork to sidestep 3 tackles ina tight space (reminiscent of his Dad's well known dancing feet) & offloads to Sutton who makes a great break through the centre and leaves the defence for dead to get in for another try to impress his onlooking grandparents. Sutton is unlucky with the conversion. 29-7. Barnhall restart & make a good break but Max Reid is supreme in the tackle to rob the ball. Corey OConghaile then makes a good break but Barnhall recover it and play it across the pitch at speed to allow their full back to run in for a quality try which is converted to make it 29-14. Barnhall really starting to move now & it takes a brave Conor Culleton tackle to hold them. With Front rows Coffey & Pedersen excelling in the line of fire, Malahide win it back and nearly break through Hogan who offloads to Keogh But he is bundled out of play. Barnhall win the lineout & Aaron Murray makes a crunching tackle in the centre to avert the danger. Max Reid forces the turnover and O'Leary passes it out to Magic Murray who makes an unbelievable run the length of the pitch to score a super individual try. Ross Keogh with a tidy conversion. 35-14 and a great response to the Barnhall pressure. A good retrieve from Adam Doyle as he skips his way past 2 defenders & offloads to Ben Steer who makes a great burst down the middle on his first team debut. Tormey makes great kick to touch to make good yards. Barnhall win the lineout but artful dodger Max Reid picks their pocket to steal the ball back. Russell with another great burst through (Barnhall wont be sorry to the back of him today) and he offloads brilliantly to Culleton who nearly touches down but is just held up. Barnhall recover the ball but Max Reid makes a super block on the clearance kick to keep them pinned in their 22. They finally clear but Ross Keogh retrieves it and with his trademark goosestep run, reminiscent of the great David Campese, he sprints past the covering winger but is tackled out by the full back with a last gasp tackle. Noah Pedersen hobbles off soon after, having made several brave tackle and when play resumes, James Cotter springs forward in attack and it takes 4 to stop him. Sutton takes the offload & he nearly gets in for what would have been a super team try. Penalty Malahide after Sutton takes a big hit. Thankfully Sutton recovers and there is no time for the penalty as the ref blows the final whistle. Final score 35-14 Malahide. A really Entertaining match against a feisty Barnhall side with some great passing rugby from both sides but Malahide will look back at the missed tackle count with some concern as that wont wash in next week's crunch league match against Terenure. Still, they managed to score 6 tries against a good Barnhall side so plenty positives to take away also and most importantly, they are through to the last 16 of the cup. Team: Daragh Fitzpatrick, Noah Pedersen, Harvey Coffey, David Power, Cian Russell, James Cotter, Max Reid, John Ryan, Dan O'Leary, Jed Tormey, Cian Murphy, Daniel Sutton, Ross Keogh, James Barry, Senan Hogan, Aaron Murray, Conor Culleton, Asair Martin-Aragin, Adam Doyle, Corey OConghaile, Ben Steers
