Taste Matters is a cosy little dining room situated at the west end of Loughrea town, just 30 minutes from Galway city. We are two friends, Jirka in the front of house and Michal in the kitchen. Together with our small team we serve top quality food in a casual setting.
The food
is a fusion of various cuisines and the cooking is traditional with a modern twist. Our inspiration comes from anywhere. As our name suggests, taste matters to us and our emphasis is on flavour.
We use the best and freshest local and organic ingredients. Our meat comes from Loughrea, the fish from Galway and our vegetables come from organic farms in Loughrea, Athenry and Galway. Mike prepares these great ingredients with skill and care. He is very passionate about his cooking and you can taste that in his food.
The drink
Jirka put together a compact list with a variety of natural, organic and biodynamic wines sourced from dedicated and knowledgeable suppliers. There are some lovely craft beers and ciders on offer as well.
Supporting local
We like to support ‘local’, from vegetable farmers and butchers, through accountants and graphic designers, to painters and musicians, and they support us back with their best produce and work.

All this and much more in the one month of December. I hope you had a ball yourselves! Time to draw a line now and start new and fresh again ... shave those beards, wash those aprons, sharpen them knives, put a new bottle of Champagne in the fridge, dust off the pair of rarely used running shoes, put the smile on and get excited about what is to come ... The wait is over! Christmas is here (it's 24th for us) and like every year we're heading to Connemara to spend a few very quiet and peaceful days. Thank you for coming to us for your Christmas meal over the last few weeks! It was a pleasure cooking for you, your families, friends and work colleagues. We are on our break now until next Thursday 28th when we open again from 5pm. We won't be able to answer the phone until next Wednesday, so please leave a message and we will get back to you then. Now... Connemara is calling! Happy Christmas everyone!! J.
Our last day before Christmas... We've just opened for lunch. Dinner will be served after 5pm. We still have a couple of tables left early in the evening and now due to a cancellation another table has become available later in the evening.
I shared yesterday what I thought was a lovely picture of Loughrea, which in fact was only a screen shot of this amazing drone video! Fair play to Barry Fahy for filming this! We might see you later tonight... or if you fancy a bit of live music, you might consider booking for tomorrow as Padraig Jack will play for you in the restaurant from 7.30pm (no cover charge).

Lunch time!
We'll leave the dining outside for another day, but other than that it's business as usual ... lunch from 1pm and dinner from 5pm. Our new Kids Menu is on. How about the Turkey Roulade?
Hi there, our Opening Hours have changed and we will be open from tomorrow offering dinner during the week and lunch & dinner on the weekend. Not tempted to go out during the week? Think again... relaxing stroll by the lake after work to clear the head and a lovely dinner in Taste Matters (which happens to be just beside the lake). Cooking and dishes sorted!
