facebook.comSwan in field near Nest where female swan is hatching at Ballinagar Bridge, Lixnaw- Ballyduff. This is the male swan , called the cob & the female swan is called the pen. The young swans are called cygnets. The cygnets leave the nest after a day and can swim straight away. The cob minds them if the pen ( female) keeps hatching . They mi d them for up to a year.
Swan hatching in canal near Ballinagar Bridge, Lixnaw -Ballyduff. The swan has made nest from reeds and has it attached with reeds . The nest goes up and down with the tide. Nice to see.Laying of eggs takes 2-3 weeks and hatching takes 6 weeks.
