Ceol na Mara is a unique summer school for strings in Connemara. In 2018 our dates are Sunday July 22nd to Friday July 27th. Bookings now being taken Ceol na Mara is is a family friendly music summer school for all ages and levels. Located deep in the Connemara countryside. We offer classes in chamber music, chamber orchestra and traditional Irish music, interspersed with some singing and drama for the younger members and music appreciation for the adults.
We have developed into quite an extended family as participants return year after year. Part of its charm is that although we work hard, we also know how to enjoy ourselves and make the most of all the wonderful facilities on our doorstep! We look forward to welcoming more newcomers this year and introducing them to the best kept secret in the West - The Ceol na Mara Experience!

Ages 5 to 80+ taking part this year! Families and friends returning...and new families coming for the first time. Lots of new friends made. 😍
Ripples in the rock pool is a movement from the 'Granuaile Suite' by Shaun Davey. It is currently on the junior cert music syllabus. Here is what you learn when you analyse it: The tonality is modal and the texture mostly homophonic. It has a complex time signature that alternates between 7/8 7/8 4/4 and 2/4 in the verses. The chorus features alternating 7/8 and 4/4 bars The instrumental bridge passage features two consecutive 3/8 bars followed by a 5/4 bar. Here is what happens when you get a bunch of 5 - 12 year olds and you don't tell them ANY of this but get Lisa Grosman to teach it to them by ear and play it at a concert in 5 and a half days. 👍🏻😍

What a pleasure to play with these talented young people! Vivaldi Concerto for 4 violins (and cello!) played by participants at Ceol na Mara summer school last week. Featuring Mollie Wrafter, Eva Barry, Ann Byrne and Aimee Mc Allister on violins, with Aoibhin Keogh Daly on cello (and Lisa Grosman and myself on the viola tuttis)
