Transition Year visit to Killarney Credit Union Following on from a talk with Helen Courtney Power in March, the TY Business class with their teacher Ms. McKenna, made a visit to the Credit Union in Killarney today. Students were given a tour of the building and their visit ended with a presentation in the boardroom. Over the next couple of weeks, students will take part in the Credit Union ‘Clued-in’ Programme in which they will complete the following modules: Money and Me, Spending and Budgeting, Credit and Debt and The Role of Credit Unions.

Our Transition Year students wrapped up their Business in the Community Programme yesterday with Paul Daly and Eileen Fitzgerald. The students presented an impressive booklet/project of their years work in the programme. The session finished with a team building exercise of who could build the highest tower from spaghetti and marshmallows. It was fantastic and very competitive! Excellent teamwork skills displayed by the students.

Killarney Enterprise Town

Students from the IT Health and Leisure College have organised some fantastic classes, read below and choose the one you would like to join. It is FUN, FREE and you will feel GREAT!! Circuit Class with Carla Behan: Hi all circuit classes are running on every Wednesday afternoon in the new Gym. Starting at 1:10pm and finishing 2:10pm. All you need is a tracksuit pants/shorts and a t-shirt. It is suitable for Girls and Boys and suits all abilities, the best part is that it is free. Hope to see you all there! Boys Soccer Training with Conor Keane: Boys school soccer training every Wednesday at 1:10 to 2:10, on the pitch behind the school. Everyone welcome. Bring boots if you have them. Thanks M.M.A. (Mixed Martial Arts) with Robert Powell: M.M.A. training will be on Wednesdays in the hall from 13:05 - 14:05. No experience is need, just come along and have fun. All exercises can be adapted for all different abilities so if you are a beginner or advanced there will be something for you. We will be covering some new moves/ combinations, grappling and submissions of M.M.A. Wear something that is comfortable and you can move easily in. Bring some water and see you there.

TY's take to the wheel!!! Transition year students today had a fantastic day at the Munster Driving Campus in Mallow with their teachers Ms. McCarthy and Ms. Cronin. They engaged in the Safety Awareness Course where they learned life long skills and driving knowledge. The course incorporated driving skills needed to drive a car in a safe manner. Each student got at least 20minutes driving time. They engaged in a practical course on engine maintenance in the garage while learning and practising to change a wheel, oil, water, coolant to name but a few. They learned the essential safety checks of a vehicle that are examined in the driving test. They also experienced the "beer googles". Finally they received tuition with regards to their theory test while practising questions. A superb day, thanks to Brian, Con, John and Paul for all your work today with the students.
