A local and community based amateur drama society. Providing opportunity for actors, directors and theatrical enthusiasts for the town and wider areas.     Greetings lovely people...

Ballina and Killaloe has a strong history of drama, not least because of the number of interested people in the area. It seemed fitting at this time that the community should enjoy the benefits of having a recognised independent drama group. And so this January, Quay Players was formally formed as a community Dramatic Society. We hope to promote, facilitate and encourage the dramatic arts in Ballina and Killaloe and beyond.
An article on the inception of Quay Players Dramatics Society and the history of drama in its early days in Ballina and Killaloe is to follow. We can learn of the blood, sweat and tears, the intent and wishes of the group and its creators and how it came to fruition.

We already have a good cohort of members, many of them familiar faces of the past who have worked tirelessly to bring drama to the community over the past number of years.

We also have members, newbies to the stage and some who are interested in stage management, costumes etc.

So we would like to spread the word out there yonder, past Moylussa and Tountinna, and to the widest and narrowest expanses of the Shannon and its hinterland. Members, young and old and "inbetweeners" are welcome to come and join us in our quest of theatrical fun and frolics.. and serious drama of course..

Having said that, we are an "amateur" group, so no experience necessary. Undoubtedly we would gladly welcome anyone with experience too..

The hope is to provide an opportunity for directors, actors, musicians, producers. lighting, sound technicians, prop masters and anyone with an interest in theatre and performance to get involved locally and to have some fun too!
Ballina, Killaloe and the surrounding towns and parishes are full of talented people, and we hope to engage all this greatness into good drama.

As a new Society/club it is our intent to fund such things for our members like workshops and to cover costs such as rehearsal space and production costs.

With this in mind the committee have come up with a nominal fee of 25 euro per individual membership. People are more more than welcome to come and try out some drama before joining. We don’t want to scare anyone away!

If you have an itch that needs to be scratched!...
Please feel free to message or email for more information..

MONTHLY PLAY READINGS AT WOOD & SONS Quay Players are delighted to announce a series of play-readings over the next three months. We’ll be looking at a variety of plays, with a view to choosing one to be our autumn production. And we’re even more delighted to be trying out a new venue as well, as the new Wood & Sons Cafe opens in the Main Street in Killaloe. Formerly Brendan Grace’s pub, from the beginning of May this will be the new home for Keith Wood’s cafe, with a daytime cafe in what was the bar, an evening restaurant upstairs, and a hall at the back of the main bar which will become a hub for community activities. The first reading will be on Friday 5 May, where we will be taking a look at Martin McDonagh’s hilarious and harrowing tale of The Cripple Of Inishman. There’s a good range of parts - 4 female and 5 male, with a variety of ages from late teens to 90s! There are some particularly good parts for young adults (including the lead role of Cripple Billy) so it would be really nice to see some of our former summer school participants there as well. If you'd like to take part, please call us on 087 457 7047. It's a 7.45 pm start and should be through by 10.30pm.

Don't miss the latest production from Quay Players at the Lakeside Hotel, Saturday 27 Feburary a 8.00 pm. Tickets are €10 from Ponte Vecchio or call 087 457 7047. Directed by Sandra O'Donnell, with Eilish Hayes, Carmel O'Riordan and Delia O'Leary, the play is set in the attic of a family home, formerly a playroom. Three sisters gather there to await the death of their father, and talk about their lives long into the night - a conversation filled with laughs, secrets and regrets. When they recall a dark episode from their past, the action descends into ritualised violence. But will the women find the answers to their problems, or is the past destined to repeat itself... This powerful play is by Geraldine Aron, author of Bar And Ger, and is not recommended for under-16s.
