Great podcast but particularly this one episode is worth a listen to - talks about how incremental changes is the way to go. Pick one thing e.g. No more single use water bottles and stick with that one thing until it's a habit and you no longer have to think about it. Then layer on another new action on top - in a short space of time the positive impact will great 😌
Benefits of Plastic Free: Something I hadn't reckoned on when I started trying Plastic Free was how healthy our diet would become - junk food being highly processed is also highly packaged. But those sweet treats are still needed every now and then! Thank goodness for Kittys Cabin Kilkenny who offer weighed sweets sold in paper bags (they also refill reusable coffee cups!) Any other plastic free treats you can recommend?
I sound obsessed with soap but this time with good reason! The Good Earth Health Food Shop are stocking The Soap Room Shampoo bar - plastic free packaged shampoo made in Ireland. Simply rub/lather directly into hair or see our earlier post on how to convert bar of soap into liquid. Keep on sending us the plastic alternatives you are finding in KK 👍🏻
Really enjoyed chatting to Roisin and Shannon on the Woman to Woman show 📻 on Community Radio Kilkenny city. It was a great platform to talk about Plastic Free endeavours and great to hear from local business on how they are rising to the challenge 👏🏻 https://www.facebook.com/CommunityRadioKilkennyCity/posts/2138371532859233

This is disappointing (Imho) While compostable cups are perhaps seen as a step forward they only are compostable when treated in certain ways, for example If the cup is in a refuge sack it won't compost and is still waste. We also have no new plans to introduce the recycling plants for these. Has anyone heard more on this? What are your thoughts?
Plastic free body washes, shampoo and conditioner are hard to find, so yesterday it took 10 minutes to convert this Irish Made, palm-oil free plastic free packaging soap into a body wash. (Cost only €2.60) 3 ounces of water, 4 ounces of soap, a tea-spoon of coconut oil. 1) Boil the water 2) grate soap while waiting 3) take water off boil 4) add soap - stir to dissolve 5) add coconut oil 6) mix well 7) leave to cool over night 8 ) next morning hand whisk mixture 9) pour into clean shampoo bottle - cheap, easy & plastic free.
