Div2 U13 Replay The Division 2 U13 Camogie final had to go to a replay after extra time such was the even match of skills between the two Balyna parish teams of Broadford and Johnstownbridge. On Sunday morning there was once again great hurling skills on display for such young players with Broadford coming out on top on this occasion. A game between these 2 sides is always going to be a tough battle with lots of the girls playing together on the Balyna ladies football team so emotions were high and both sides left it all on the field. The skills on the day from long pucks to great blocking demonstrate that the future is bright for the Balyna parish. Johnstownbridge got off to a great start with 2 points from Rachel Kelly and Maura Langan but Broadford came back with 2 goals from Hannah Kennedy and Niamh Jenkins but the Johnstownbridge girls didn't hang their heads and they came back with a point from Caoimhe Birchall and a goal from Jill Grimes another goal and a point from Niamh Jenkins for Broadford made it Broadford 3-01 Johnstownbridge 1-03 at half time. Broadford continued their run at the start of the second half with a great point from Katie Daniels and another goal from Niamh Jenkins meant the game was all but beyond the Johnstownbridge girls but once again they fought until the end with further points from Rachel and Laura Kelly and 2 from Caoimhe Birchall meant that it finished Broadford 4-02 to Johnstownbridge 1-06. It was great to see the girls shake hands at the end and the dignified way in which Broadford celebrated their win Katie Fennell gave a great captains speech thanking her coaches and the Johnstownbridge team. Our own girls whilst dissapointed know that there is always next year with only 2 of the current team not eligible to play next year at U13. Plus they had no time to think about it as it was into the cars and off to Johnstownbridge to watch the Senior ladies secure their place in the Leinster Intermediate Camogie Club Championship.
