Are you going to get your massage treatment? Are you curious what to do/don't before and after your massage to improve and enjoy all massage's benefits? Here are few simple tips. Follow them always and enjoy your massage :) Before the Massage: 1. Shower before your session. Hot/warm shower would be best. If you can not take a shower (or bath) using a moist rag or washcloth to refresh your underarms isn’t a bad idea. 2. Have a light snack about an hour before the session (apple, banana, etc - would be good). The massage stimulates your body’s digestive processes and might leave you feeling hungry. Also, the relaxation massage can lower your blood sugar level. And remember, If you have had a big meal, allow your body to digest first. Avoid any alcohol before your massage therapy. 3. Don't care about your hair. Massage therapist shouldn't care about your leg, armpit, back, chest or facial hair. I don't care if you haven't shave in a week, a month, or a lifetime. When I'm working I focus on your muscles and skin. I don't focus on your hair at all. When someone has more than average body hair, I do use more lubricant so I don't accidentally pull the hair during the massage. The same about anything other "flaws". You are a humane being with busy schedule and human biological functions, that includes for example: cellulite, birthmarks, pimples, moles, dry skin, ingrown hairs, wrinkles, chipped nail polish, non-pedicured feet, etc. 4. Don't care about your weight or look. When you lie down on my massage bed you are just... a body. Not a good or bad body. Not a beautiful or ugly body. You are just a human body. You are just a puzzle of muscle and bone that I get to unravel until you feel better. The massage treatment is a judgement-free zone; it is a safe space where you can stop judging yourself and where your therapist does not judge you. Where you get to just be a body. 5. Tell your massage therapist about any major surgeries or injuries you’ve had. Yes, in your entire life. Tell about any pain you have. Tell what kind of massage you would like, what is your prefered pressure (light, medium, hard). 6. Just before massage session hit the bathroom. Also avoid to drink too much water before your massage. There is nothing worse than having a pee while someone is pressing on your bladder. During the Massage: 1. Speak up! Tell your massage therapist to do "more of this" or "less of that". It doesn't mean you need to tell: "I just want a good massage". During the massage you shouldn't be afraid to tell your therapist if something is not right, if something is uncomfortable, the pressure is not right (too light/to hard). If something is NOT right to you - just tell it. After the Massage: 1. Take your time. After massage you may feel a bit tired. Don't get up and dress just after your massage therapist finished your massage. Sit on the edge of the massage bed and realx for a while. If you are lucky and can relax for a bit longer - do that. Wear some nice, fluffy robe, grab glass of water and stay on a sofa for a 20-30 minutes. 2. Drink a TON of water!! Massage is nothing else but a workout for your muscles. You would drink water after your gym session, wouldn't you? Do the same after your massage. Massage has detoxifying effect, drinking water will help remove metabolic wastes that accumulate as your muscles are worked out. 3. During massage your digestive system was at work, you may feel hunger pangs. Little, light snack will be very good for you now. I recommend your favorite fruit (banana, orange, apple) 4. Don't drink alcohol and caffeine after your massage. If you book your appointment for morning time, make sure you had your morning coffee before massage therapy. Also avoid hard and vigorous exercises after your massage session. Try to relax on the day when you have your massage. 5. Speak up. Again. Communicate. Massage therapist will ask you how you are feeling. Tell the truth. Be honest. Say what worked, what didn't. 6. Of course one massage can certainly help, but it packs the greatest benefits over time. It would be the best to get massage as frequently as possible, but I know, massage therapy can be expensive. Try to schedule one appointment for a month, or even 6 weeks. Think also about barter. Maybe you could trade with your massage therapist? Maybe you are a hairdresser and your massage therapist would trade for hair coloring. It is just an idea. Keep it in mind and think of it. 7. Now, when you have booked your next massage therapy, it is time to tell your friends. Most massage therapist are trying to grow their practices. If you like what they do, tell your friends.
