On Wednesday last the Ballyglunin Railway Restoration Project received a massive boost through funding of €80,000 from Galway Co Co. following a detailed application by the group to the National Town and Village Renewal Scheme. We are thrilled with the news of this massive vote of confidence by the Galway Co Co in the work we are doing. We have had a hugely successful year following our international crowd funding campaign, National Heritage Council funding for the roof and the various activities that we have hosted at station. This funding will allow us to continue our restoration programme as well as developing an all-encompassing strategy for the station and surrounding area. We would like to acknowledge the enormous goodwill that has been shown towards the project in recent times. Our vision is to create a world class visitor attraction and arts centre for the West of Ireland while providing a multifunctional resource for the community. Ballyglunin is the perfect example of how the skills and talents of a community can be pooled to develop innovative projects.” The roof restoration begins tomorrow morning with the erection of the scaffold so a very exciting week all round. We are still beavering away with the rewards and getting them out to everyone that donated and got back to us with their details. The slates are the slowest part but we hope to do a shipment to our American friends next week. We'll keep everyone informed as to how the roof is progressing.
We want to wish the Galway Senior Hurling team the very best of luck in today's final against Waterford at Croke Park today. Our Galway flag flys proudly at Ballyglunin Station. Come on Galway!!
Heritage Week The Heritage Council Galway County Council
As our very first Heritage Week at Ballyglunin station draws to a close we want to say a big thank you to everyone who participated. In particular we want to thank all of the volunteers who gave so generously of their time; our presenters and guides who delivered well researched and extremely interesting talks; our partner heritage groups from the region who shared their knowledge and insights; and Marie Mannion from Galway County Council for her support and encouragement. Finally we want to acknowledge the funding we received from the The Heritage Council towards this week's activities. We look forward to building on this year's programme for 2018. #heritageweek
We had great turn out at our Pop-Up Cinema today with over 50 children and adults attending. We hope to do this more regularly with the help of parents in the area. If you're interested in helping occasionally we'd love to hear from you. info@ballyglunin.com
