Galway Print Studio is a professional fine art printmaking studio in Galway City. (formerly Lorg Printmakers). Galway Print Studio is a collective printmaking workspace accommodating a number of members who share a passion for print. We collaborate with professionals to create opportunities for artists and develop our professional profiles.

Galway Print Studio is non-profit organisation with a non-hierarchy organisational structure and we all play an integral part in the running of our workshop. We are proud of our system based on transparency, honesty and generosity of all of us as a team. Everything we do is of benefit to each and every person that uses the space.

We are proud to be able to provide a working environment designed to improve the efficiency of our working routines. The workshop is a shared space with numerous activities that may include regular classes, demonstrations, group workshops or individual project work. We work on 24hr access system without any booking schedules. You will enjoy having the opportunity of working and sharing with others to develop your knowledge and skills. The workshop is designed to allow you to work in tandem with other members to share the space effectively.

At Galway Print Studio we practice a “non-toxic” printmaking approach. This movement has been paramount to the creation of a healthier environment in which to work. Non-toxic processes still use a variety of chemicals, but greener printmaking is about exploring safer and non-toxic alternatives to traditional printmaking practices. We feel strongly about providing a vital, healthier workshop where newer technologies are available as an alternative in testing, exploring and being all round more conscious of working in a greener, safer environment.

We are privileged to have the experience and knowledge that each and every member brings to our workshop. As such our workshop layout has been designed and made possible by Elena Santos. Elena´s expertise in printmaking and her working knowledge both as an artist and printmaker has been applied to develop our new workspace.

The space is organised by sections to meet the Studio´s needs separately. Our working method relies on the division between an ink free area and a printmaking space. In this way the easiest solution was to combine our clean working processes together in line with the office at front of house to cover all our service requirements. The workshop structure now allows us to print without interruptions from those using the front of house facilities.

We provide all the facilities required for relief printing, intaglio and screen-printing. Our Studio is open to collaborate with professionals to provide educational workshops for members and the general public. We also offer a service to professional artists who wish to use our facilities to produce print editions. We provide a digital printing service for members, artists and the general public under the supervision of a trained technician. Digital equipment is also available for rent by members and general public.

Board members: Andrew Boyle, Ramona Burke, Kristen Cavagnet, Shane Crotty, Deirdre Deegan, Alice Kennelly, Lynne O'Loughlin & Elena Santos with administrator Katriona Gillespie

IMPRESSIONS Printmaking Show 2017 OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS. IMPRESSIONS’ is pleased to announce the Open Call for this year’s Impressions Printmaking show, curated by Jason Hicklin(UK). Impressions’ ‘Book Arts’ exhibition was highly successful with a great response from all who visited it during the 2016 Galway International Arts Festival. IMPRESSIONS is the first and longest running National Open Print Exhibition. For more than twenty-five years it has maintained its excellent record for producing high quality print exhibitions and has become a landmark show in the Irish arts calendar. Impressions is a not-for-profit organisation and is run by a team of volunteers motivated by their passion and excitement about print as a medium for making art. An essential objective is to stimulate and engage a wider audience and to create a greater awareness of the historical and cultural specifics of printmaking. It aims to highlight the intrinsic aspects of printmaking, such as multiplicity and accessibility and to stimulate new ways of thinking about and working with the process. For 2017 IMPRESSIONS will return to its more usual remit of exhibiting original prints. This will take place during the Galway International Arts Festival in July 2017. It will be hosted by Galway Mayo Institute of Technology at the Centre for Creative Arts and Media. Artists are invited to submit up to three works online to be considered by our invited curator Jason Hicklin. Requirements for proposals: • Complete the online submission form: http://www.impressionsbiennial.com/submission • A non-refundable handling fee of €12 per print must be paid in order to complete the application process. • Online submission is open from 1 February 2017. In 2015 Norah spent a month in the Difi Valley, while there she joined the nearby Aberystwyth Printmakers workshop. She is still a member and will be delighted to make some work there while on her residency. The focus of these two weeks will be to work on her upcoming new solo show which will be exhibited first in the Ballina Art's Centre later in the year. 'Bali Nights' Monoprint
