Dancing The Rainbow is a unique creative healing practice, which promotes holistic well-being through the use of colour, mindful movement, meditation, music, dance and the creative arts, to support the balance of the body’s chakra system.
It was developed by two Irish women Lani O'Hanlon and Antoinette Spillane in the 90’s.The practice of DTR has already benefited countless men and women in Ireland.
“Our aim in Dancing the Rainbow is not to be beautiful or expert but truthful in our expression of ourselves through movement. We allow the body to move from the inside out, leaning into fears and disabilities, stiffness and rigidity, into the bones, joints, flesh, muscles, sinew-and fluids of the body. We explore our physical body as a map.”
Extract taken from the book ‘Dancing the Rainbow’ by Lani O’Hanlon.
Who is it for?
Dancing The Rainbow is a creative workshop suitable for all ages and can have particular benefit for people who want support for their creative recovery, those with an interest in the chakra system and those who want to get in touch with their bodies natural rhythm.
Dancing the Rainbow Movement
Our instinctive movements and intuition leads us into dance. We draw on our own innate creativity, the earth’s natural elements and the natural environment around us. We always start from a point of stillness and end also in stillness, helping us to ground and to become more present in the space and in the body. The dance leads us on a journey of new self-discovery, spontaneous creativity and connects us with the natural rhythm of life.
Dancing the Rainbow Colour
In each class we work with the colour associated to the charka we our focusing on. We use scarves, candles and colour breathing, enabling us to experience the atmosphere of the colour and the affect it has on our bodies. Working with colour in a creative setting can reveal energy blocks in the body and will change our vibration to soften and heal the body.
“When we begin to see with colour, our perception changes and we notice what colours we are working from and expressing and those we feel estranged from or uncomfortable with.” Lani O’Hanlon, ‘Dancing The Rainbow’
Dancing the Rainbow Sound
Musical vibrations associated with each charka inform us further on our journey through the landscape of the body during the class. We use music from different cultures to deepen our experience in the charkas and sooth or ignite the body’s state. Most people are already aware of the strong effect music and sound can have on the body and during the class we extend this sound awareness, by learning to listen with the whole body.
