Clare Marts, in conjunction with Dovea Genetics, Erogene AI Services and Munster Cattle Breeding Group are launching a Bull Premium & AI Scheme for 5 Star terminal index straws for beef breeds for the suckler herd. Please see www.claremarts.ie for more details or contact us at 065 6824411
BULL PREMIUM & AI SCHEME 2018 Clare Co-operative Marts have launched a major breeding programme aimed at maintaining and enhancing the supply of top quality cattle through support for suckler farmers in the form of Bull premiums and the use of AI straws. Clare Co-operative Marts are working in partnership with Dovea A.I., Munster A.I. and Eurogene A.I. to promote the use of top quality 5 star terminal sires, within the suckler herd. Clare Co-operative Marts is renowned for quality stock and we believe that by introducing a scheme for the use of 5 star terminal sires will help maintain a vibrant suckler herd in the county and beyond. It has become obvious to Clare Marts that the demand for quality stock is on the increase due to the expansion of the dairy herd and many feeders in these areas are finding it difficult to source quality weanlings and stores. Clare Co-operative Marts believe that the suckler herd in their catchment area has a very good future provided the focus is on the production of quality stock. Suckling is suited to county Clare due to average land type and many fragmented holdings. We believe this scheme is complimentary to the beef Genomics Scheme in that the use of 5 star terminal sires qualify in all respects for the scheme and this together with the improvements that have been achieved through the scheme already will only enhance the quality of stock on offer and increase the customer base and market for quality stock. The scheme envisages providing a subsidy for the purchase of 5 star terminal beef breed bulls together with providing subsidies towards the use of 5 star AI Straws from the companies previously mentioned. In total up to €35,000 is being invested in this by Clare Co-operative Marts and their partners of Dovea A.I., Munster A.I. and Eurogen A.I.. The terms and conditions attaching to the scheme are as follows: 1. Recipients of either of the above must have sold stock to a minimum value of €5,000 through Clare Marts Ltd. in either of 2016 or 2017. 2. Commits to sell stock to a minimum of €5,000 through Clare Marts Ltd. in 2018 or 2019. 3. Purchase a Pedigree registered beef breed bull with 5 stars for terminal index, under 30 months of age and genotyped. Premiums will be restricted to 20% of the price of the bull or to maximum of €500. The total number of premiums available is 20. Bulls purchased through Clare Marts will be given priority 4. Farmers may be eligible for up to 20 AI 5 star terminal index beef breed straws up to a maximum value of €200 from any one of the following AI companies, Munster Cattle Breeding Group, Dovea Genetics or Eurogene AI services. Farmers will be liable for the insemination portion of the fee. All straws are taken as having a €10 value per unit. There will be up to 2,500 straws on offer. If there is an oversubscription for straws, a draw will take place to determine the recipients of same. 5. No more than 20% of the herd is pedigree (Buyer). 6. The purchaser will retain the bull for 12 months, unless where unavoidable slaughter is necessary. 7. Farmers can apply for both, but will only receive either the AI Straws or the Bull Premium. Only one application per herd number. 8. The scheme only applies to purchases from 1st January 2018 to 30th June 2018. Dates of Clare Marts Pedigree Registered Bull Sales in Ennis Mart for 2018. Monday 12th March, Show & Sale 9th April and 14th May. We believe that this scheme will be very beneficial to our supplier base with the potential to receive assistance in their breeding policy and more importantly in the production of quality stock which we believe there will be a strong market for. Great credit must go to our partners in this scheme those being Dovea A.I., Munster A.I. and Eurogene A.I., for their commitment to the production of quality livestock. Please contact mart office for application form and more information on 065 6824411
