facebook.comPregnancy Acupuncture for Naturally Inducing Labour September is our busiest month of the year for labour induction. I wonder what people were up to around last Christmas! Labour induction is great for ladies who want to avoid being medically induced. We usually start from week 38 onwards or if you have reached your due date or are past your due date and want to enhance your chances of a safe, gentle and natural induction method (although increasingly we are seeing ladies who are coming in from week 35 as they are being induced at the 38 week stage due to considerations regarding babies size). Acupuncture also helps shorten the duration of labour, decreased labour pain, as well as reduce anxiety during labour. If you are at least 38 weeks pregnant, we can start the process at this time. In fact, we recommend the sooner you start, the better. Acupuncture safely and gently promotes and eases the onset of labour. We use acupuncture to help avoid a medical induction. It is a gentle process that brings on labour gradually so don’t worry, it is unlikely you will go into spontaneous and acute labour while with us or in the hours after. One treatment is often enough but it really depends on a number of factors such as: is baby’s head engaged, is your cervix dilated, are you before your due date or overdue, etc. to be able to truly evaluate your needs. Feel free to give us a call or drop in to discuss your options.
Change of Opening hrs for Fleadh 2016 Hi folks. Because of envisaged parking issues in the vicinity of our clinic we will be opening in the mornings only this week. We will be back to regular hours from this Monday on. Enjoy The Fleadh!

TURNPIKE ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC WINS WHATCLINIC.COM AWARD FOR EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE Turnpike Acupuncture Clinic has been recognised with an award for excellent customer service by healthcare search engine WhatClinic.com, based on feedback by customers over a twelve month period. The award is based on feedback from patients, and combines scores for excellent customer service and timely consumer feedback. Customers rated clinics based on how well the clinic treated them, how quickly they were contacted and seen, and how happy they were with the treatment. Mary and Keir McNamara are “delighted to be recognised for our commitment to customer service. It is something we focus on above everything and to receive such positive feedback from our patients is great” WhatClinic.com CEO Caelen King congratulated Mary and Keir and said “This is the 7th year we have run these awards. Every year, the standard goes up and up - and I’m delighted to recognise those clinics that are putting the needs of the patient first, every single day. “It’s the customer who selects our awards winners, by their clinic ratings and the feedback they leave about service and experience. We believe that empowering the patient with accurate information is the future of a successful healthcare market.”

Improving flexibility to prevent sports injuries. The playing season is about to kick off for many players, with challenge games and leagues commencing shortly. Most have been working on their strength and conditioning, and aerobic work for some time. One area that gets little attention for many players in field sports is flexibility and agility. Within the next few weeks, we will have a lot of players coming in with muscle conditions brought on by the demands of these early matches and their lack of flexibility. In our experience, teams who start to run into injury trouble find it very hard to get the momentum they need for a sustained effort at winning championships. More progressive clubs will have conducted fitness and screening tests at the beginning of the season which gives players a bench mark to work from. Some of these test can easily be performed at home using resources from the internet examining range of movement, agility, etc. We should all be working on our flexibility at any rate, but if you are a player and feel it is not getting the attention it needs at training, consider supplementing this with stretching and/or pilates. If you know what you are doing, this can easily be done at home on a mat, even after you get home from training. Hold the poses and stretches for longer than you would on a cold, wet pitch (try for at least 45-60 secs). Don'y let your own lack of preparation be the cause of your injuries.
