In February 1943 the number of men to be trained and remunerated as local fire fighting units in Lismore, Ballyduff, Dunmore East, Cappoquin, Portlaw, Kilmacthomas, Tallow, Tramore and Ardmore was agreed. Helmets, rope and ladders were then acquired to equip them.
