5th & 6th class started off the new school year with a positive mindset by using positive adjectives to describe their classmates! The girls said they really enjoyed this activity, especially getting up in front of the class to read what people wrote about them! 😊👍🏻

LISTEN!

The Girls were magnificent on as Saturday night as they performed as part of the Stations of the Sun Festival. Check out the performance below. LISTEN! CREATED AND PERFORMED BY STUDENTS FROM ST NICHOLAS’ NATIONAL SCHOOL AND REDEEMER GIRLS’ SCHOOL, DUNDALK PART OF MUSIC GENERATION LOUTH’S SONGLINES INITIATIVE SONGLINES IS FUNDED BY PEACE IV’S CREATIVE INTERVENTIONS PROGRAMME TONIGHT’S PERFORMANCE IS IN COLLABORATION WITH LOUTH CONTEMPORARY MUSIC SOCIETY The piece was devised during a series of workshops facilitated by visiting festival musician Kathie Prince and Music Generation Louth musicians Niamh O’Hanlon and Ursula Byrne Crawley. Students explored the global theme of The Forest Environment using their voices, body percussion and instruments. Working alongside the group, electronic composer Conor Walsh created a sonic landscape incorporating sounds created by the children and field recordings made in the local forest. LISTEN begins underground exploring the sounds of the subterranean world beneath the trees. It then moves on up to the forest floor where we hear the strings imitating scurrying creatures and rustling leaves and branches. A rainforest chant begins the next section, imitating birdsong and calling the human forest dwellers together to celebrate life in this special place. We are reminded of the destruction of forests around the world by a loud percussive section which culminates with the Song of the Wounded Forest with poetry written by the children. Finally we are reminded to listen the earth and each other as the word – LISTEN – is translated into different languages spoken by the children at home. With special thanks to the Principals and teachers of St Nicholas’ National School and Redeemer Girls’ School for providing us the opportunity to work with their students and supporting this creative initiative in their schools. Roots grow deep in the soft wet soil Warm breeze blows through the woods in Springtime Birds sing songs in the early springtime Heavy ripe fruitness – tress fall forward Listen, Listen, Listen to the Forest https://youtu.be/zfV3ZS2O57E
