Making the Move- Primary to Secondary School

The transition from primary to secondary school can often be a daunting experience for 6th class pupils. Run by secondary school teachers who have worked in many different schools, this camp gives the pupils a first hand account of school life in a secondary school and what exactly to expect in September. This summer camp aims to make the transition for 6th class pupils an easier one. Not only will students meet new friends, who are also going into secondary school in September; their confidence levels will be boosted and they will learn new social skills which are so important when entering into a new school environment. The fun and easy-going camp will introduce students to both the social AND academic aspects of joining a new school. The students will have the opportunity to ask questions in an open and comfortable setting. We will explore many aspects including the differences between primary and secondary school; the normal school day, timetables, subjects, books and copies, change of teachers, lunchtime, canteens, gym, study hall, school reports & exams, classroom changes, school bags, homework, lockers, rules, extra- curricular activities and more! Students will also be introduced to effective organisation and study skills which they can use from the very beginning of the school year. Fun activities will be run throughout the week in subjects such as History, Maths, Geography, Art, English and Science. This will give students an idea of the type of topics they will be learning in first year of school and they will realise that it is not as difficult as they may think! Cost: €75 (Spaces are very limited)
