Well, the important day is almost upon us and it's time to reflect on some of the choices available to us. We are presented with a range of Candidates for #GE16. Most of them appear to be honest, truthful, hard-working, and have our best interests at heart. It is vitally important that we all vote and install the best Candidates possible. It is well known that there are only three seats available to the Dun Laoghaire constituency this time around. (Sean Barrett automatically re-elected as Ceann Comhairle). We ask you to select wisely and to leave a blank space beside that of Ms Mary Hanafin. Please vote for as many or as few of the other Candidates but please do NOT give any preference to Ms Hanafin. To revisit our reasons for ignoring Ms Hanafin please read the post that is pinned to the top of this page. It is our belief that Ms Hanafin does not have the best interests of our Constituency at heart. She has already proved beyond doubt that she has no time for small local enterprise, despite professing to do so. We feel that she should not be involved in our area and should retire to enjoy her pensions (in excess of €100,000 pa) that are paid for by us. If Ms Hanafin fails in her bid to get elected, this "Patton Flyer" page will go back to sleep and dream dreams of Bus Routes that might have been! If the electorate inflicts Ms Hanafin upon us, then, this "Patton Flyer" page will just snooze with one eye open and be ready to remind everyone how bad that Ms Hanafin is for the Dun Laoghaire Constituency and to watch her every move. This is Ms Hanafin. Her commandos were out canvassing in Dalkey last night and were given a message in clear terms that she has not supported local business in the past. She is not good for the Dun Laoghaire Constituency or for local business. There are some very honest and worthy Candidates standing before us for election and one should think very carefully before voting for one,some or all of them. Please vote for your choice of the following but please, please do not vote for Ms. Hanafin. Maria Bailey - Richard Boyd-Barrett - Frank Cronin - Cormac Devlin - Carol Hunt - Mary Mitchell-O'Connor - Shane O'Brien - Carrie Smith - Ossian Smith. Five years down the road from the demise of the Patton Flyer and there are some observations that need to be made. Firstly, the legacy of the Patton Flyer is that the good citizens of Dalkey, Sandycove/Glasthule, Dun Laoghaire, Monkstown, Blackrock and Sandymount now have a regular Airport Coach service provided by the Multinational FirstGroup/Aircoach. They hold the Licence for the route that was thought up by, and introduced into service by local Dalkey people. The folk of the local area welcomed and supported this new service that meant one could travel to Dublin airport for €6. The route licences are issued by the Department of Transport, which was headed up at the time by the Fianna Fail Minister Noel Dempsey. This man was famous for the “Voting Machine” debacle, and when the crash came and FF were doomed he took his baggage and his Ministerial pension and hightailed it back to Meath and “retired” from Politics. Minister Dempsey never had time for the Patton Flyer and robustly defended his, and his Departments inept and outrageous handling of various Licence applications for this service by the Patton Flyer. At this time our local FF TD and Cabinet Minister was Mary Hanafin (Minister for Education). Minister Hanafin (or Sinister Hanafin which she was referred to locally at the time). Ms Hanafin was elected to represent the people of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown in Dáil Éireann and boy did she NOT do that for the Patton Flyer. Ms Hanifan was lobbied by the principals of the Flyer on numerous occasions to help secure the Licence for this service. At several meetings she confirmed that she supported the local business and that she would seek the assistance of her Cabinet colleague Minister Dempsey to secure the Licence. Alas, Ms.Hanafin showed her true colours when she decided to support the Multinational FirstGroup in their bid to muscle in on and take over the route that was started by local enterprise. In 2016 the dust has settled a bit on the legacy of Ms.Hanafin ,Minister Dempsey and others. Seeds of recovery are now beginning to sprout in our Country and in our Constituency. Unfortunately the seeds of recovery have not been so kind to some of those former employees of the local enterprise known as the Patton Flyer, many of whom have had to leave Dalkey to forge careers elsewhere. What’s all this about? Why has this FB site re-activated? Who cares about the Patton Flyer? Does it matter? Well, Ms.Hanafin is running as a Fianna Fail Candidate in the upcoming General Election and certain questions need to be asked. Are you as honest now as you were in 2010 Mary? Can you be trusted to say one thing and do another as you did then Mary? Will you refuse to support local enterprise again Mary? How many faces do you have this time around Mary? Can you truthfully say you will represent local people Mary? The truth is, Ms.Hanafin is not good for this Constituency Please do not vote for Mary Hanafin in the General Election 2016.
