Lean & Limber Pilates
Description
STOTT PILATES Instructor. Elaine studied with Merrithew Health and Fitness. STOTT PILATES is recognised worldwide as the professionals choice. Elaine was originally a dinghy sailor in her teens and in her twenties. She represented UCD in their team racing events and came 8th in the 420 National Sailing Championships. Core strength, balance and flexibility are essential for competitive sailing and as a result, Elaine has an interest in this area.
STOTT PILATES builds on the principles of the late Joseph Pilates work by incorporating more up to date knowledge about the body. The aim is optimal musculoskeletal performance (i.e. strength, flexibility and endurance). This method of exercise helps restore the natural curves of the spine and relieve tension.
Benefits of Pilates:
- longer leaner muscles
- core strength and stability
- injury prevention
- relief from stress and back pain
- improved balance and coordination
- heightened mind body awareness

Great mix of people attending open level pilates class at Newpark Sports Centre last night. A couple of people returning to Pilates after practicing it previously. Wonderful that they found it all came flooding back, muscles remember! For those with back pain, finding a class that is conducted in a back safe manner can really help.
Great stuff!

Feeling happy 😊 This is what next Mondays classes in Dun Laoghaire are looking like: 9.30am Reformer, Sculpt & Tone 10.30am Mat, Beginners 6.00pm Reformer, Level 1 7.00pm Mat, Level 1 8.00pm Reformer, Beginners
The Pilates Reformer - Legs Instructors can increase or decrease resistance and range of movement so you can safely perform exercises. Examples of Reformer Exercises * Footwork (with feet on the footbar) is the perfect series of exercises for correct tracking of the knee and improving strength from the feet to the hips. Working in neutral (pelvis and spine) ensures efficient shock absorption by the body. * Side lying exercises can be used to target the abductors and lateral hip. * Exercises where the feet are in straps are excellent for strengthening and stretching adductors (inner thighs), abductors, hamstrings and hip flexors. * Hip Rolls (bridging) strengthen the gluteal muscles and the hamstrings, as well as stabilising the back of the knee.
Helping Mat student with exam prep today, it brings it all back. If you are not familiar with all the muscles, there can be a lot to learn. Students must also get to grips with postural analysis and programming exercises to address the issues associated with any given posture. All exercises and their modifications in the Mat manual must be learnt, knowing the muscles involved, the correct breathing and what to look out for in client movement patterns. Then it's a case of practice teaching, observing other teachers and finding the right cues for clients. Last but not least, it helps to understand the exercises by feeling them in your own body!
Tomorrow at Focus Pilates (Ranelagh Village) Pre Natal @9.30am Open Level Mat @10.30am
