Great work being done in the Gaelscoil!
Many thanks to the volunteers who came out on Saturday to clean up in the Mangala following the alien species removal. On arrival, we had another job to do first as the the grill on the main bridge was totally blocked and the back up of water was flooding the field. Once cleared we got onto the rubbish pick up, however we will have to go back another day when the water levels are lower so that we can reach the far banks.
While we don’t formally come back after our Christmas break until later in the month, if anyone is available this Saturday to help pick up rubbish in the Mangala (Ballybrack Woods, Douglas) in the area now exposed following the removal of the Cherry Laurel, we are meeting from 10:30 in the Mangala itself. Wear your wellies! Thanks!
Met with Cork County Council today to talk about the next stage of the Cherry Laurel removal project in the Mangala. Looking forward to meeting again next week also with Wild Work to finalise what planting will be done in keeping with our overall aim to manage Biodiversity.
Stage 1 of our Pollinator Garden in Douglas Community Park. Already generating interest locally! Douglas Community Association, Cork County Council
Please note that the upper trail in the Mangala (Ballybrack House side) is closed until further notice while works continue to remove the Cherry Laurel (alien invasive species).
A very lovely surprise this morning: we received a €500 cheque from the students of Regina Mundi College! This money was raised by the students on their no-uniform day. We are very honoured that the students chose to donate this money to Douglas Tidy Towns. Many Regina Mundi students work with us as part of the Gaisce Award and, together with students from the Douglas Community School, they painted the amazing mural in the Ballybrack Woods. Go raibh míle maith agat!
