Very sorry to report the bad news again that both Glen and Abhainn Bhui or Yellow rivers are ‘catch and release’ and closed to taking a fish for 2018. Sadly the IFI review the minister ordered to look into our Fissta proposals which may have opened our rivers did not take place during 2017. Unfortunate it’s clubs and local economies like ours that have to suffer the consequences of Ifi madness.

Sad news reaching us this morning that Billy Millar from Belfast and the Salmon Leap has died. Billy was a regular member on the Glen river and enjoyed his salmon and sea trout angling among us for many years. In recent years Billy fought his illness bravely. Suaimhneas siorai. Billy

Thanks to all our close knit club members, Paddy and Kathleen and our Committee for all their work and support in 2017. The salmon angling season closed yesterday on a perfect autumn day with perfect water on the Glen fishery in Southwest Donegal. It was our most challenging year ever that started with the river being classified as 'catch and release' for the first time. That meant that no salmon or seatrout could be taken from the system for the first in our history. Why? Because of an administrative and not a conservation reason. i.e. Lack of angler logbook catch return data over a five year average. So the fishery was put into recovery status despite it being stuffed with fish on good water days such as yesterday. We have engaged professionally qualified expertise to dispute this decision and we hope this data and our lobbying opens our river for 2018. We expect the Minister makes his ruling in November on the basis of the facts and his own review of the present crisis in Inland Fisheries Ireland management who are presiding over a cliff edge decline. Our Glen River system has survived the 2017 sentence of catch and release thanks to our 2017 members support who registered and fished the river. There are many state reasons challenging our salmon survival from sealice to their protection in their feeding grounds to enhancing their spawning in our natal rivers just like we are doing upriver this past few years. Our work will eventually pay dividends if we protect our waters from all threats and the present abstraction for industry. We will continue this fight on all attack fronts and using the late Orri Vigfusson's Icelandic salmon figures to inspire us all, we will rise again. Mile buiochas d'achan duine. An updated rivers report will follow very soon.

Good days fishing on the Glen River and lakes. Philip Maguire and his entourage arrived and he and Bernie has to be the happiest campers I know with their new motor. Safe motoring.

Glad to see that Orri RIP used some of my footage in a few of his promotional videos - this one is six months old. A few minutes in you will see Orri shaking hands outside Dáil Éireann with Patsy Peril from Limerick, David MAGILL Chairman of Donegal Game Angling Federation and Fissta Board Member, John Baba Jean O Conghaile from Conamara, and Eamon Ryan TD (later to become salmon Minister) who helped me arrange the meeting at
