Anthony has been the Head Physiotherapist and Head of Medical Coordination for Munster Rugby for the last 8 eight years, and has decided to take his skills to another level and offer them to the general public.
Our mission is to make elite level physiotherapy available to everyone. We recognise the increased level of sports activity in this county and want to provide the same level of physiotherapy as a professional sports team to the general public.

Load vs Capacity! Understanding the concept of how our tissues need to adapt to the loads we place on them is very improtant in understanding the cause of injury. We are always trying to understand how the injury happened and, sometimes we can unearth the cause of the injury by asking what was happening over the previous4 weeks or so. As this video explains it can the the body some time to catch up to the loads we are placing on it.
Shoulder Dislocation Repeats!! If you are 16-25yrs old,its your dominant side, have a fracture or weren't immobilised your likelyhood of redislocating is high. There are other factors too which measure your disability. These people are more then likely going to have surgery.
Runners Get Strong!! The science now shows us that the old philosopy of High Reps and Low Weights are not the way to go. Back to 3-4sets of 8-12 reps with heavier weight. So, I hope that all you runners preparing for the Cork Marathon are doing suffiecient strength work.
Strength is shown to reduce injury risk significantly!! This study shows that there is over 60% reduction in injury risk by simply doing some strength work. Proprioception or balance training can reduce injury by over 40%. This is partly due to the strength gain while training in this way. So, to prevent injury you should train in both ways, and also in most rehab you should be working on both, which helps repair and prevent recurrence. Get moving!!!!
Arthritis in the knees? A 10% reduction in body weight through exercise and diet, can lead to a 50% reduction in pain symptoms at 18 months. I dont like the term 'intense' when it comes to dieting, but we know that nutrition is a very important part of the weight loss process. Strength around the knee has also been shown to reduce pain in arthritic knees, and as it says, both diet and exercise are key.
Snowy weather might stop you running, but perhaps you could walk if its safe? Look at this infographic about the benefits of walking from Trust me, I'm a Physiotherapist
Achilles Tendons - the loads going through the achilles while walking and running are quite significant! If you aim to walk or run regularly in the new year, make sure to do some strength to allow the achilles prepare itself for the challenge!! And, if you have gained any Christmas weight, then trying losing it before you start that new years resolution of runnning.
MRI - there is some debate about MRI and its ability to 'see too much' Well, here you can see the variety of things which show up in people with No Pain!! So, the message is really to discuss your MRI reports with someone before you get stressed about what they say.
Gluts on Fire? Are you doing the banded walks optimally? A new study found that band placement around the feet generated the highest amount of gluteal activity without increasing TFL activity when compared to band placement around the knees or ankles (Lewis et al, 2018).
