Brass Off! brings together 90 young brass and wind musicians from Cork City, Carlow and Mayo - Music Generation - Music Education Ireland
Music Generation Cork City hosts Brass Off! Showcase Concert The culmination of a major three-day brass and wind development project for 90+ young musicians from three counties Wednesday 12 April, 3pm The Curtis Auditorium, CIT – Cork School of Music, Union Quay, Cork City FREE admission (first come, first serve basis) Brass Off! is a Music Generation National Partnership Project Developed in collaboration between Music Generation Cork City, Music Generation Carlow and Music Generation Mayo 90+ young musicians from three counties will travel to Cork City this Easter break to take part in Brass Off! – a major, three-day musical jamboree for brass and wind players ages 10 to 18. Running from Mon 10 to Wed 12 April at CIT – Cork School of Music, Brass Off! will offer the young musicians an opportunity to explore technique and develop their skills as part of a cross-county full brass and reed ensemble, under the expert direction of 15 musician-tutors from the local areas. On Easter Monday Cork City Council will host a number of events for Cruinniú na Cásca, the national culture day. The programme for the day in Cork allows people to discover and experience Cork City’s heritage buildings. This new country wide event is organised in partnership with Creative Ireland, led by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Rural, Regional and Gaeltacht Affairs, and promoted by RTE. Elizabeth Fort will be open from 12 until 3, with tours available each hour. Triskel Christchurch is hosting two free screenings of The Song of the Sea, while St Peters on North Main Street has an exhibition exploring Cork’s maritime history, a history talk and walk, followed by some live music. Finish off your day with traditional Irish music by the Lee Sessions at An Spailpín Fánach, South Main St., Cork While all events are free, there may be a need to book into some of them.
