facebook.comUCC and our alumni feature heavily in a new RTE documentary ‘U2 agus an Arc’ which focuses on the band’s performances at the legendary ‘Downtown Kampus’ gigs in the Arcadia Ballroom. Sarah Dineen is the founder of Amplify Digital Conference, Ireland’s Largest Digital Marketing Conference which takes place in Cork on 27th and 28th July. She is the owner of the digital marketing firm SocialQue and set-up her first business Uniwink, with the support of UCC Ignite. Sarah talks us to us about her time in UCC and rolling in the grass on the quad on University College Cork Alumni Network.
Rebecca Murphy is the Education and Training Co-ordinator at Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health. Prior to this she worked as UCC’s Peer Assisted Student Support Co-ordinator. She has a strong background in student politics serving as Welfare Officer in the UCC Students' Union and Welfare Officer in Union of Students in Ireland (USI). Rebecca looks back on her student days and the skills she developed in college on University College Cork Alumni Network.
The 17th Annual Nursing & Midwifery Research Conference will be held on November 23rd 2017. Conference Theme: “Innovation and new directions in healthcare research and practice” Abstracts of original research or extensive literature reviews are invited for oral or poster presentations. While we are prioritizing submissions relating to the conference theme, we also welcome submissions on any topic relating to Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare. Please submit your abstract (maximum 250 words), indicating which type of presentation, along with your credentials and a brief biography to: serena.fitzgerald@ucc.ie Please note the deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended. Abstracts should be submitted for selection by Friday July 14th 2017.
This week’s alum is Ann Cleare, a composworking in the areas of concert music, opera, extended sonic environments and hybrid instrumental design. She also lectures in composition at the University of York. Her work has been presented by broadcasters such as the BBC and RTE and she recently featured in the New York Times in advance of her inclusion in the Composer Portraits series at Columbia University. The Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork (UCC) is pleased to announce details of a Master-class as follows: 'Continuing Competence for Nurses and Midwives: A Sharing of Insights’ The Master-class will be presented by Professor Rachel Vernon, Dr Elizabeth Heffernan, and Professor Josephine Hegarty. It will take place in room G.04, Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, University College Cork, on Wednesday the 7th of June 2017, from 14.00-16.30hrs This event is Free of Charge and all are welcome to attend. UCC alum, John Doherty recently became the first Irish person to sign for a professional Ultimate Frisbee team when he joined the Seattle Cascades. As John embarks on an exciting season on the U.S. circuit he looks back at his time at UCC and how joining the Ultimate Club changed his life! Today is the first European Cancer Nursing Day. This will be an annual event, celebrated on the same date every year. European Cancer Nursing Day reflects in a unique and global way the significance of each cancer nurse throughout every geographical extension of Europe. The celebration will stress the importance of the recognition of cancer nursing on a European level, as well as the importance of further education and training. This week’s alum is Tanya Ward, Chief Executive of the Children’s Rights Alliance. She played a major role in the Children’s Referendum of 2012 and was also a former Vice President for the International Federation of Human Rights.
