Cork Adult Education Council
Description
Adult education and further training. Founded in 1972 the Cork Adult Education Council is a voluntary organisation. The purpose of the Council is to bring together the various organisations and groups involved in adult learning in Cork city and county. Statutory bodies such as UCC, CIT, Cork Community Schools, City Library, and the Cork ETB are represented. The Council also represents a commercial group involved in adult learning as well as a large number of voluntary groups. The Council organises a number of activities during the year: The Adult Education & Learning exhibition, lunch time lecture series and activities for older people.
The objects of the Council are:
1. To help promote and co-ordinate the work of the various statutory, commercial and voluntary organizations in Cork.
2. To act as a reference centre for those seeking information on learning opportunities.
3. To help assess the adult education needs in Cork and bring those to the attention of the various relevant bodies.
Membership is open to any society, group or organization involved in adult learning.
