REVENUE FRAUDULENT TEXTS 'Smishing' is the name given to fraudulent schemes whereby you are sent an SMS (text message) containing a link to a fraudulent website or a phone number in an attempt to collect personal information. Smishing attacks, whereby people are sent a text message with links to a fake website that look similar to the Revenue website have been reported. Please remember that Revenue never send unsolicited text messages. If you receive an unsolicited text message purporting to be from Revenue with a link to a website you should ignore it.

Starting a new business or have a business idea.... wondering what status you should take from a Revenue point of view.. Sole trader is the simplest option. To set up as a sole trader, you will need to register as a sole trader with the Revenue Commissioners and submit an income tax return once a year (deadline 31 October of the following tax year). The accounts are generally easier to maintain and don’t have to be audited, this means you can... Do them yourself, You can file your own tax return, You can ask me, as I charge much less than it would cost to have your accounts audited by an accountancy firm. Some sole traders register their business name with the CRO. (This is NOT the same as setting up a company.) The business name certificate should be displayed at the place of business and a copy given to the bank. There is no restriction on registering a duplicate business name. However, a company name must be unique.

If you're self-employed in Ireland, you're obliged to file an annual tax return. This is referred to as a 'self assessed tax return'. Under the self-assessment system in Ireland, all self-employed people must report all income earned by filing a tax return. Your tax return is also used to claim any tax allowances that can be offset against your tax bill. You have to file an Irish tax return if any of the following circumstances apply to you: You're self-employed You're a contractor or sub-contractor You're a landlord You receive income in addition to PAYE income e.g. income through an investment portfolio, rental income, income from a construction trade, capital gains, consulting, contracting or if you receive any other untaxed income from ‘nixers’ or work you do in addition to your normal PAYE job. You’re director of a company You belong to an employee share scheme.

Thinking of Renovating or Extending, worried you had missed the deadline for Tax Relief.... you haven't... In Budget 2017 the scheme was extended by a further 2 years to the end of 2018. You benefit by getting a refund of VAT paid in the form of increased tax credits over two years. Claim from €595 to €4050 in tax relief. You must use a VAT Registered Builder and you must be an owner or land lord and your LPT must be fully paid up.
