Description
Goatenbridge/Ballybacon Development Association was established in December 2000 to develop and enhance the Goatenbridge and Ballybacon areas. A lot of work has been carried out in recent years & we hope to continue that work into the future! Goatenbridge is situated at the foot of the Knockmealdown Mountains, on the banks of the River Tar and in the Parish of Ardfinnan/Ballybacon and Grange. The local Parish Church is located in Ballybacon. Local GAA Clubs are Ballybacon/Grange for hurling and Ardfinnan for football. Please feel free to share any old/new photo's ect and keep an eye out for notices!

Tipperary continued their undefeated streak in this year's League and emerged victorious on a scoreline of Tipperary 4-13 to Leitrim 2-12. Two local women will bring a gathering to Tuam on May Eve, 30 April, 2017 in Solidarity and as a remembrance for all the babies and mothers that came from every road in Ireland North and South to give their lives for the cry of a new life. Building a SAFE Community Seminar. You are invited to a public seminar hosted by Newcastle Community Alert titled “Building a SAFE Community”, in Newcastle GAA Centre, Newcastle, Clonmel on Wednesday the 15th March /2017 at 7.00 p.m. A Number of speakers will address the seminar including An Garda Siochana on Rural Crime, Good Morning South Tipperary will make a presentation on Loneliness and Isolation of Older People. A Demonstration on Property Marking for Communities if you wish to avail of this service on the night for small items such as your mobile phone please have your EIRcodewith you. TASK Alarms will make a presentation on Socially Monitored Alarms and the use of Mobile Phone Technology with Socially Monitored Alarms, Credit Union personnel will provide advice on their services and How Safe is your Money in a Financial Institution and a number of other Guest Speakers will also address the meeting. It will also see the introduction of the Nominated Neighbour Scheme information and instruction cards: a scheme where residents receive a card to hold up to the window telling the caller that they are not recognised and to go to their nominated neighbour, whose phone number and address is displayed on the card. The neighbour will then check the callers identity, and if necessary will return with the caller to the residents home, having been satisfied that they are genuine. This event will be of interest to persons working with Older and Vulnerable people, Community Organisations, Volunteers, Service Providers, Health Care Professionals and the General Public in South Tipperary and West Waterford. A number of voluntary and statutory organisation’s who provide services for Older and Vulnerable people will have Stands at the event. Refreshments will be served . ROAD CLOSURE NEWCASTLE BRIDGE The Clonmel/Ardfinnan (L-3502-2) approach road on the Clonmel side of Newcastle Bridge to Newcastle village will be closed from 9.30am to 5.00pm on Thursday 09th March 2017 to facilitate emergency bridge/road works. Traffic from Clonmel will have to divert at the Fingerpost, Wood Road, Clonmel via the R671 to Ballymakee. Traffic from Ardfinnan will have to divert to Goatenbridge. All diversion road signs will be in place. TIPPERARY COUNTY COUNCIL REGRETS ANY INCONVENIENCE CAUSED

Knockmealdown Crossing 8th April 2017 The Peaks Mountaineering Club’s big day on the mountains is this coming Saturday the 8thApril 2017 when we host the annual Knockmealdown crossing of this magnificent mountain range We have 3 walks scheduled for the different capabilities of hill walkers. Please note that you need full mountain gear, good boots, backpack and wet weather jacket etc. If you do not have proper walking gear the Peaks Mountaineering Club will not allow you to participate. All participants must register at the Community Hall Newcastle GR 132 134 for transport and route cards. • The first walk i.e. the A walk is an early start with registration in the Community Hall in Newcastle Village at 7am. This walk is a self-navigation walk the full length of the Knockmealdown range covering 35 kilometres and ascending all the peaks. There a number of check point with codes on this route. A high level of fitness, navigation skills and open mountain competence is a requirement. Full four season gear with liquids and food for many hours also needs to be in the backpack. Walkers will be bussed to the start from Newcastle. • The next walk is the B walk which is a led walk covering about 22 kilometres and climbing some of the more well-known peaks. Check in time is 8.30am also in Newcastle with similar gear, food and liquids and mountain fitness also advised for this walk. Walkers will be bussed to the start from Newcastle. • The C walk is a more sedate walk covering about 14 kilometres mostly on forest track and path ways, but all weather gear also advised. The check in time for this walk is 10.30am in Newcastle. All walkers will be bussed to their start point on the western end of the mountain range so that the finish is at the Community Hall in Newcastle. • You will be checked in and given a certificate of completion and well fed with a very tasty hot meal. Well done also to Clara English who is a member of the Tipperary Ladies Football Assoc. Under 13 Development Team who played Kerry Ladies Gaelic Football in a challenge game in Brosna, Co. Kerry.
Pilgrim Paths Walk 2017 | Knockmealdown Active
Easter Saturday April 15th - Pilgrim Paths Walk Join us on Saturday April 15th, which is Easter Saturday 2017, as we retrace the footsteps of St. Declan over the scenic Knockmealdown Mountains. The Melleray to Goatenbridge walk will take about 3.5 hours to complete. It involves a gentle height ascension of 330 metres over the Knockmealdown Mountains. The walk will commence at Mount Melleray Abbey at 11 am with assembly and bus pickup at the Green in Ardfinnan at 9.30am. The cost of €20 covers walk leaders, bus transfer from Melleray to Goatenbridge and light refreshments on return. Participants should bring any meals, snacks and drinks they require during the event.
