Mens results and Fixtures: The New Competition - Choose Your Partner The first week of the new competition, sponsored by Martin Kane, seems to have grabbed the interest of the members and although the course was closed on Saturday there were still forty five pairs who made it to the starting blocks, 37 of those pairs playing on Sunday and it was nice to see so many players on the course on Sunday. Played over 11 holes (because the 3rd and 11th are closed temporarily) who could have expected the exceptional scoring with two pairs both on 33 points and only 4 points separating the first 8 pairs. In top spot in this first week were Rudolf Virdzek and Andrew Gartlan but they only won on the last 6 from Jim Butler and Paddy Kenrick. Rudolf and Andrew now stand on top of the leader-board with 10 points in the individual competition and Jim and Paddy with 7 points. By now all members are in tune with the fact that this competition - Choose Your Partner -is in fact a singles competition played in fourball format and the leading 40 players (and equals) will contest the Final which will be a Singles Stableford competition at the end of the eight separate competitions. The winners each week will receive a Voucher. The 11th hole is back in play so we’ll have the full 12 holes competition for the second week. Just a note to all players that when completing the scorecard: · The name of the competition must be written on the card · The date played must be clearly stated on the card · The actual handicaps must be entered on the card...it is not sufficient to enter only the number of shots allowed · The scorecard must be signed by at least one player and must be countersigned by a marker. Mens section: The recent wet weather has not been kind to the course and presently both the third and eleventh holes are closed due to water logging and there is a temporary tee box on the eight. The new competition - Choose Your Partner - which starts on Monday 8th is curtailed to 11 holes for this week due to the holes being closed and hopefully at least one of the two will re-open for the next round of the new competition. The handicap allowance remains at 3/5 for the 11 holes. The Club is grateful to Martin Kane for his generous sponsorship for this competition. The new Course Index was announced in the last couple of weeks and has been well received by the members. It will be reviewed at the end of the year when 18 hole competitions have concluded.

Drive In: A large turnout was present to witness the tee shots of the Captain’s Tony Horne & Liz Binchy, Vice-Captain’s Andrew Gartlan & Deirdre Ronan, Junior Captain Aidan Hickey. This, traditionally, is always a great occasion and affords the Captains families, friends and members the opportunity to show support and wish the Captains the very best of everything for their year in office. The weather held good while the Drive-in took place and Lady Captain Liz was not in the least bit fazed by the cheering gallery. Over 20 teams took part in the 4 Ball Scramble. Congratulations to the winners “ The Quinlivan Team’ ( Brid, Roisin, Padraig & PJ) and to the Captain’s & Vice Captain’s team, who came 2nd.
