Borris Community Playschool LTD
Description
We provide sessional care for Pre-school age children.
We provide ECCE places for children in the community.
The Playschool began in 1999, when a group of parents got together, formed a committee and applied for a grand from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. While waiting the playschool operated on a voluntary basis, with donations of toys & equipment from the community.
Grant was received for the purchase of equipment suitable for playschool use and for staffing.
In 2014 we moved from the Town Hall to a Respond building in Oak Tree Court, where we can provide more playschool and ECCE places for children in the community.

We have had lots of fun here in Playschool during February. The girls and boys have had so much fun learning through play. At the start of the month we were learning about space & the solar system, this was a really popular theme and the children loved it. We made some spaceships, some planets from clay and a beautiful bright sun. There was also lots of super rockets made from junk materials that were full of imagination. We have been very lucky this month that we have got to take part in a balance bike programme that is run by County Carlow sports partnership. We have got 9 bikes for the children to practice with and it will provide them with fundamental movement skills using agility, balance and coordination. Thomas from County Carlow sports partnership was kind enough to call to us last week to show us how to use the bikes correctly and how we can continue to develop their skills. We are really lucky also as we have a complete new kitchen in our home corner area, the children have been so excited and lots of dinner parties are going on daily. The last two weeks we have been learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly and the children have created beautiful art work to coincide with this. They are very interested in this theme and full of questions about the caterpillar and butterfly. Finally, as we are experiencing this cold snap please ensure your children have warm coats & hats coming to playschool. We will be monitoring the weather situation and please be prepared for the possible closure of the playschool. We will inform parents through text message if there is any closure. Kind regards, Playschool staff
January has been a very busy month here in Playschool. We have been learning about dinosaurs and the children really enjoyed the ice dinosaur activity. We have also set up a construction area which has been a big hit with the boys and girls, there has been lots of banging and hammering going on with lots of imagination used. Junk modelling has been a very popular free choice activity this month, using old recycling materials the children have made speed boats, ships, rockets and even a bride with a veil. Their imagination has really shone bright. Next week we are learning about space if any parents would like to bring in empty plastic bottles we would love to make rockets out of them. Kind regards, Playschool staff

The children will be performing the Nativity play on Wednesday 20th at 10am, please arrive a few minutes earlier to allow us to begin at 10am sharp. Everyone Welcome. Just a reminder parents are welcome to take photos for their personal use but we would ask you to refrain from posting them on social media. Thank you, Playschool staff
