facebook.comOur new cover photo was taken during a recent tea tasting. It shows beautifully all the various colours of the different tea types. For a tasting you also inspect the infused tea leaves which will give you clues about age and quality. The plant to the left is not just nice to look at it is there because it belongs to the tea family (camellia japonica).
August is here and we have a new Tea of the Month: Rooibos Strawberry-Banana. Like all South African Rooibos it does not contain caffeine and it is delicious hot or cold. Cooling Summer Teas A warm tea is more cooling in a hot climate than a cold drink. The body needs to warm the cold liquid in order to digest it and as a result you will feel even hotter afterwards. In most hot countries people drink something warm, preferably tea to cool down and to stay hydrated. Black Chai tea in India, Green (Moroccan) Mint or Hibiscus tea in the Arabic world, Yerba Mate in South America, Rooibos in South Africa (Rooibos Provence on special offer - click image below) and green Lung Ching tea in China. Brew the teas as per instructions and let it cool down until it is just hot or at least warmer than your body temperature. Sipping tea might not be as sexy as a muscly ad for Coke or have the super-duper mountain freshness of an otherwise tasteless beer. Sipping tea is like a statement of health, a commitment to nature and a confident understatement. — Products shown: Rooibos Provence, Yerba Mate Cool&Fresh, Lung Ching, Black Chai, Moroccan Mint and Hibiscus.

The two delicately beautiful flowers belong to the species camellia japonica. They are closely related to the camellia sinsensis whose dried leaves most of us drink every day as - tea. Both plants share the evergreen dark, pointy leaves with the jagged edges but the sinensis flowers are much smaller and usually a creamy colour. Both species grow well in Ireland and the photos below were taken in our garden at the weekend. And yes, you can produce tea with the japonica leaves. It tastes awful.

In addition to the previous post here is a picture of a fresh batch of the curry tea we mixed today. You can see (from left to right) the fenugreek leaves, turmeric, chili flakes, ginger underneath, cardamom pods, pepper corns and the curry leaves. Tastes as good as it looks.

Indian Curry. This interesting and rather unusual tea is our very own newest blend. Like most curries it contains turmeric, pepper corns, chili flakes, cardamom, cinnamon, fenugreek, ginger and curry leaves. The spices are based on a low tannin black tea so it does not get bitter. This blend captures the intriguing smells and the warming aroma of Indian cooking. You will get a free sample with every/any order from our website: http://www.houseoftea.ie/shop/black-tea/scented/indian-curry

Presidents Tea In honour of the new American President we would like to introduce our new “Make Tea great again” tea. Drink it and you will feel proud of yourself and your (strictly non-Muslim) country. None of the ingredients come from China or Mexico – that’s greatness in itself. It is made mainly from hot air – the best hot air in the world. It can’t build you a wall (although there is no evidence to the contrary) but it will make you want to grab some pussy. Go for it. All revenue we receive from this sale will go in our very own tax evasion fond. It’s fantastic. Maybe you could even get a Mexican to pay for your tea. This would be truly awesome.
