Wish you could bring your entrepreneurial spirit to create lasting social change? Don’t miss expat Ubudian Tom Hickman (founder of Bali’s first Coast to Coast Ultramarathon) and Classroom of Hope founder Duncan Ward in conversation on how they took their dreams from idea to implementation. On the eve of Bali’s first ultramarathon, Tom and Duncan will chat about how they got started, their successes, failures and biggest lessons, and how you, too, can create lasting social impact. (Plus, they may even give you a few hot running tips!) DRESS UP & OUTPOST WILL DONATE $$$! To support Tom and Outpost’s cofounder Bryan Stewart (who’ll be running 10k of the ultramarathon!), Outpost will donate 30k for every attendee who comes dressed in 80s-inspired running gear: we want to see headbands and legwarmers, people! GIVE GENEROUSLY We’ll be collecting money on the night, so come with a generous spirit! Or give at Tom’s page: https://give.everydayhero.com/au/baliultra ABOUT TOM HICKMAN & BALI COAST TO COAST ULTRA Tom says: “I don't think in January, when people people saw me chain smoking and drinking gin and tonic, 15kg heavier… they would have expected me to be running across Bali. … I really got a sense that I need[ed] a bigger purpose and, as well as my own running hobby, could I use that to do something bigger?” “The Bali Coast to Coast Ultra happens on the 19th and 20th of August. It’s an 84km run from Tejakula via Kintamani to Canggu. We're aiming to raise funds to put 7 underprivileged Balinese kids through primary school with the amazing for-purpose organisation Classroom of Hope.” Donate at https://give.everydayhero.com/au/baliultra ABOUT DUNCAN WARD & CLASSROOM OF HOPE Duncan says: “Globally at the moment 250 million children can’t read or write, and 263 million, globally, do not have access to school. With regards to Bali, in the north, west and east there are still high poverty areas. … The funds that Tom raises will be funding seven of these kids to get all the way through primary education.” Classroom of Hope is a for-purpose organisation that believes everyone deserves access to quality education. Duncan Ward founded Classroom of Hope in 2012 and has, since then, worked to create access to education for thousands of children, including the development of 29 schools in Rwanda, Cambodia and Laos, and the creation of a scholarship program in Bali and Cambodia. "I don't think in January, when people people saw me chain smoking and drinking gin and tonic, 15kg heavier… they would have expected me to be running across Bali." When Ubud-based Brit Tom Hickman took up long-distance running, he fast realised he wanted to give something back to Bali, the place he's called home for three years. The result is Bali’s first Coast to Coast Ultra Marathon, to support education charity Classroom Of Hope — with the goal of putting 7 Balinese children through primary education. Outpost's own co-founder Bryan Stewart will be taking part and running 10k!! Make sure you follow the link to donate >>> https://give.everydayhero.com/au/baliultra <<< and stay tuned for an upcoming special Outpost event!
"You can’t come up with a new business idea without testing assumptions, and you can’t build a business in a vacuum. It requires the interaction between curious and driven people." Do you agree? Disagree? Why do YOU love coworking? Check out Geeks In Cambodia's interview with co-founder Bryan Stewart.
