關於北河燒臘飯店: 每一天的放工,放學時間, 位於深水埗北河街的北河燒臘飯店門外都有不少街坊排隊買飯. 他們不是因為飯盒好吃而來, 而是因為價錢便宜, 可以飽肚而來. 燒臘飯店雖然人山人海, 但因價錢便宜, 所以實則利潤不高, 加上現時通脹, 食材, 租金等經營成本不斷增加, 卻堅持不加價, 淨收入只能夠謹謹維持生意. 飯店除了提供便宜飯盒外, 還實行「民間扶貧」計劃，向有需要的長者提供平價、甚至免費「愛心飯」果腹、現正研究將其中一個舖位改為「免費飯堂」，向合資格長者伸出援手。計劃內容是給長者飯券, 當他們肚餓時到店內用膳可以使用飯券而不用收費, 以減少基層長者的日常開支. 再者, 飯店自零八年與香港社區組織協會合作推行飯券，由該會每張贊助十五元、陳老闆贊助兩元，貧苦街坊只需付五元，就能獲一餐三餸一湯膳食。除此之外, 飯店更會在每一個星期六晚上由店主及志願者向深水埗區區內露宿者免費派發一飯盒, 一水 和一生果. 以上行為, 使北河燒臘飯店被區內街坊捧為良心食店、窮人飯堂.

關於北河燒臘飯店店主陳灼明: 人稱明哥, 高佬明的店主陳灼明在窮困家庭中長大, 明白到貧窮人口能夠吃三餐飽飯是十分困難的, 故此便有了"綜援生活津貼每天只有50元，我把飯餐價錢維持在十來元，想顧客一日吃上三餐之後，還有剩幾元買日用品"的定價原則, 而食客食飽飯滿足離開的樣子，就是明哥工作的原動力。

Pei Ho Siu Mei Restaurant also launches a 'fighting poverty campaign', which provides a cheap and even free meal for the needed elderly and homeless people. A free canteen is now building to serve some qualified needed elderly.

About the owner of the restaurant Chan Cheuk Ming: People call him Ming. Ming grew in poor condition and understand having three meals a day is very difficult for poor people. " I set the price of food of about fifteen dollars, which is affordable for people who take the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance," Ming said.
