PILOTENKUECHE artist residency
Description
PILOTENKUECHE international artist residence Pilotenkueche is a residency project, based in Leipzig, Germany. We offer a large working and exhibition space within the Leipzig Spinnerei, where 8 to 10 artists working for a period of four months, culminating in a final show during one of the gallery weekends in Leipzig.
Local artists run the residency program. Because the project is still young, it offers the artists in residency much freedom to create a format, which works for the individual, as well as the possibility to take part in the shaping of the PILOTENKUECHE.
Resident artists have 24-hour access to the space, and we encourage the participants to work and be present on site as much as possible during the duration of the residency. When committing to this project, the artist must agree to stay the duration of the term (it is not possible to stay just a few weeks, etc.) Regardless, the participant is responsible for paying the entire participation fee.
We wish that the space be an open environment and welcome visitors to come by to visit during the working process.
PILOTENKUECHE is not a full residency. Accommodation and travel costs are not provided, but we can help you finding a room and organizing your stay in Leipzig. PILOTENKUECHE is a non-profit project.
You can expect an intensive time of work and exchange in our large work space in the center of Leipzig’s contemporary art scene. The exhibition will be seen by a broad audience. You will become part of the PILOTENKUECHE network including the possibility to participate in future exhibitions organized by PILOTENKUECHE and an eventual appearance in a future catalogue.
The three project terms each year are:
February - May
June - September
October - January.

Here are some impressions of the preview shows of the recent residents from USA, Germany, Chile, France, Canada, Poland, UK, Japan, Ireland & the Netherlands. The works are presenting a diversity of expression around the topics of identity, technic & nature with performative & activism approaches. Each position lights from its own perpective onto contentual interfaces to light them out from diverse points of view. The exhibitions aimed to give a preview for the final presentation which will take place in January 2017 and to develop a dialoque between interests & artists. The goal is to overthink and to reflect the own position as well as the results of the others to discover interfaces and common topics. The PILOTENKUECHE Artist Residency is a non-profit studio program open to artists of all internationalities. The work towards the common goal of a final group exhibition leads to intensive dialogue about individual ideas and working practices, binding the artist individuality temporarily into a group, which leads to a longer-term network that exists even after the residency is over.
