We help you build your automotive business. The BMW Startup Garage is the Venture Client unit of the BMW Group. As a Venture Client, the BMW Group becomes a client of a startup, at an early stage when its product, service or technology is not yet mature.
Participation into our program is a startup’s first step to succeed in the global, multi trillion dollar automotive industry. It consist of a no-strings-attached partnership to integrate and validate a startup’s product, service or technology in BMW Group vehicles as well as to network entrepreneurs with top automotive engineers and managers.
The BMW Startup Garage centers on startups that help us improve our vehicles and the driving experience. Startups admitted to the program are:
* Automotive startups – companies who target exclusively the automotive industry
* Startups from other industries – companies that have a technology for many industries, who believe their solution can also be of significant value to the automotive industry

When Start-Up Brain Meets Corporate Brawn
Handelsblatt global just published a great article explaining what we do and why we do it. Quote: "The way the Startup Garage works is brilliantly simple. Gimmy and his small team select a start-up and immediately put it to work. The start-up gets a supplier number and purchase order, and is then hooked up with a BMW development team. Straight away, the start-up is involved in one of the carmaker’s actual pilot projects – whether in autonomous driving, electric battery technology or cybersecurity for factories. Gimmy gives the start-up about three months to prove its worth before the next order is issued. There is no investment and no commitment, but BMW pays the start-up for its work. Infinitely more valuable, however, is the immediate feedback the start-up gets from BMW, as well as the chance to get its technology into millions of cars. Gimmy calls it a “venture client” system." The BMW Startup Garage is looking for an intern starting May 2017! The BMW Startup Garage offers you a unique internship opportunity right at the heart of the BMW R&D center. Here you will support our team with the implementation of the innovative Venture Client model. As a part of our team you will learn more about the startup ecosystem and work with the best startups worldwide. You support us with the documentation, evaluation and selection processes. Furthermore, you support the internal and external communication between Startups and the BMW development department and get insights into the BMW innovation process.
