Official page of the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt. (Go to site notice)  Established in 2002 as Germany´s first professional school of public policy, the Brandt School incorporates the vision of its name patron that the world is fundamentally interconnected and interdependent, that local solutions require global understanding, and that responsible policy-making means to boldly think outside of the box.

In this spirit, the Brandt School offers students, researchers and the broader policy community a highly international atmosphere, a uniquely trans-disciplinary approach, and a practice-oriented outlook.

Commitment Award 2017 - 16 days to go! Project 1: Florencia Aguirre and Juan Cruz Moroni “Financial Education for a Better Future” The project, “Financial Education for a Better Future”, invented by two first-year students, Florencia Aquirre and Juan Cruz Moroni, seeks to boost the financial literacy of low and middle-class credit users in Uruguay. Because most credit users, within these income ranges, tend to fall victim to the debt trap, this project seeks to create two workshops, which will provide information on financial planning and effective alternatives to consumer credit. Last week, on June 16, we had Jakob von Weizsäcker MEP-GER and Seb Dance MEP-UK as guests at the Brandt School. Together with our students, we had an very interesting talk on the reasons for, and the consequences of, BREXIT. The discussion was part of the school's event series "Populism, Democracy and Elections".

Guest Lecture: Challenges of Humanitarian Health Action

The Brandt School invites you to the "Challenges of Humanitarian Health Action" guest lecture which will take place in the Brandt School lecture room (WBS/0114). Volker Lankow, former Médecins Sans Frontières (Docters Without Borders) Project Coordinator, will present the work of Doctors without Borders (MSF). The main focus will be on the humanitarian work in the challenging context of Afghanistan and how medical-humanitarian work is possible in an area with high security risks. Volker Lankow, a registered nurse, worked from 2000 until 2014 with Doctors without Borders (MSF) in the field. He worked as Project Coordinator and in various countries like Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Sudan, Jordan and Liberia. Since 2014 he is back in Germany and he works in a Forensic Psychiatry in Berlin.

On Thesising!

MPP student Faraimunashe Nkomo on thesis writing at the Brandt School. The MPP includes a mandatory internship which was an great inspiration for Farai's thesis topic: "The internship (at the World Wind Energy Association, editor's note), most importantly, exposed me to international wind energy industry experts. These networks helped me gather useful information, and answer complex questions that I had regarding sustainable energy transitions."
