At the camp, death was systematic (e.g. There was a hierarchy of prisoners, a defined "philosophy" and "process" for killing and cremation); yet at the same time death was incidental and depended on luck (e.g. Prisoner's work station and surrounding officer greatly affect his chance of survival). History showed that they died for freedom, honour, independence, and justice. Although ultimately, it is impossible to give meaning to death.
