Bonn International School (BIS) offers an excellent education for children aged 3–19 in a nurturing, multicultural community. We are an English-speaking school that delivers the comprehensive IB Programmes. Welcome to Bonn International School.

Our school offers your child an excellent education in a nurturing, multi-cultural community. On the banks of the Rhine River, our school is centrally located in the leafy heart of Europe.

We are an English-speaking International Baccalaureate school delivering the three comprehensive programmes of this internationally-renown organization. Our students span the ages of three years to 19, all of whom we inspire to develop into well-rounded global citizens.

Your child will enjoy small class sizes, an experienced and hand-selected international teaching staff, a student body comprised of 75 nationalities, and a broad and stimulating curricula that both empowers students to discover their passions and strengths, and teaches them not just what to learn, but how to learn. Our students and graduates show maturity beyond their years and are exceptional role models.

A wide range of extracurricular activities are available to students at all grade levels and include technology, theatre, music, sport and languages. Specialist school counselors are available to students through times of transition, for education on life matters and simply to talk to. Furthermore, a carefully considered Learning Support program offers students additional assistance when necessary.

We value the contributions of our wider BIS family and firmly believe in the partnership of students, faculty and parents. Many programmes, activities and school events are open to all community members. We enjoy a positive and vibrant milieu at our school and warmly welcome you to experience it on a guided visit.

Grade 3 measures success .... in pizzas. Working on volume and weight, Mr. Gerhardt's Grade 3 mathematicians took a pizza recipe, scaled it up for a group, shopped for the ingredients and then put their cooking skills to work. This tasty experiment and practical exercise led to the class enjoying lunch (and their successful calculations) together right before Spring Break.

Almost finished, Grade 10! Since Monday, our Grade 10 students have been sitting mock exams to practice for the real deal in two months. They have done on-screen assessments for almost all of their subjects in a real-life test environment. This practice makes sure that Grade 10 students are ready for the IB eAssessments taking place in May leading to their MYP Certificates. Good luck to each of you in the last stretch of this exam time!

Vote for the best Government With a chance to design the perfect country, Grade 4 teams today presented their ideal land. Student, parent and teacher audiences voted on their favourite country and scored teams on defined criteria. Students decided on a clear government system and constitution with defined roles and responsibilities for the rulers and the citizens. They also focused on important laws, human rights issues and needs of their citizens. Different types of government form the focus of our Grade 4 Unit, How we organize ourselves.

BIS Girls succeed at State Neuroscience Competition Girls from our Grades 10 and 11 competed in the regional Nordrhein-Westfalen Neuroscience competition Deutsche Neurowissenschaften-Olympiade Bonn e.V. during the weekend. The competition included 5+ hours of testing ranging from practical examinations, SAT style questions, patient diagnosis from case studies, and podium based questioning from a panel of judges. The questions were of a very high level. Really! Out of 45 participants, five BIS students were selected to represent BIS and Bonn in the Nationals in Heidelberg in May! All students came away from the event inspired.

World Pi Day Last week's World Pi Day became a celebration for a different reason: Grade 12 mathematicians finished the epic journey of their Higher Level IB course. They invited back Ms Hopper, as their Grade 11 teacher (complete with her baby), and baked… well, pies, obviously…. so that they could share breakfast together. Most impressive was that they insisted on completing a past paper question before moving to the savoury activities. In general though, Maths on an empty stomach is something to be avoided!

Students walked out of class in support of the right to student safety in schools. The school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (MSDHS) in Parkland, Florida caused a reaction. In memory of 17 students who lost their lives, and to support others whose lives took a tragic turn for the worse on 14 February, the MSDHS students will stage a walk-out at 10:00 today. Our Grade 11 student, Monica asked all Grade 5 - 12 students to support them by walking-out at 10:00 CET. Monica spoke last week at assembly about the relative safety that we live in our BIS community and the importance of showing solidarity with the MSDHS students who are trying to make a difference regarding the safety of students in US schools.
