Finished in the year 1100, this World Heritage Site is a perfectly preserved treasure of Romanesque art. The Abbey was and is a major stop on the Road to Santiago de Compostela and still today it is a place of significance for pilgrims. Moissac is also where the Tarn river meets the Canal de Garonne and where the unique Chasselas grape is grown. A pretty place and a great place to visit, with history around every corner. MUST-SEE PLACES IN OUR AREA Villeneuve-Sur-Lot - Not much is left of the ancient bastide town but the beautiful historic town centre gives one a glimpse into history. The Porte de Paris and the Porte de Pujols are the anchors of the old town, both gates classified as historic monuments. Eglise Sainte Catherine, with its red bricks and gorgeous frescoes is a beautiful place to stop and enjoy the moment. Be sure to take a look at the interesting photographs posted outside the church, especially the aerial view of the town with the serpentine Lot enveloping it. The town is a hive of activity on a Saturday when the morning farmer’s market takes over the town square. Stop by one of the many bistros for a leisurely lunch afterwards by strolling through the Porte the Paris. And be sure to pop in to the small gift shop directly to the right of the Porte, where all manner of prune-based gifts are available.(And this is where you could be staying, if you wanted to visit. https://simplebooklet.com/ladurandie)

MUST-SEE PLACES IN OUR AREA – one can’t visit France without visiting a farmer’s market. Part of the fabric of village life back then, and now, these markets spell “abundance” as colours, tastes and fragrances come together. Luckily the fragrances are much more pleasant nowadays than back in the (Medieval) day! Some of the local produce can only be found at these markets and with buying directly from the farmers, fresher it can’t get. One can easily get drawn into market-hopping here as there is a market happening every day of the week in a different town. (If you’d like to hone your cooking skills, plan to visit the French markets and find yourself a great kitchen, like this one. This is where you could be staying during your visit. https://simplebooklet.com/ladurandie)
