The University of Eastern Finland was ranked among the world’s finest universities in several subjects in the recently published QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018. The University of Eastern Finland’s most successful subject was Nursing, which was ranked 49th. Well done! :)

New staff members and promotion: Postdoctoral researchers PhD Reeta Lamminpää and PhD Krista Jokiniemi started at Department of Nursing Science at the beginning of this year and Docent Tarja Kvist was promoted to Associate Professor (tenure track). Reeta’s research area is maternity care and Krista's is clinical nurse specialist role development. Tarja will continue with health service research.

The doctoral dissertation of Natalia Sak-Dankosky, Master of Science (Nursing), entitled "In-hospital family-witnessed cardiopulmonary resuscitation: Perspectives of health care professionals and patients’ family members" will be examined at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Greetings from Copenhagen! SHE Academy “Health, Wellbeing and Educational Achievement: Focus on Inequalities” was held on November 29th – December 1st in The Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, Copenhagen. The SHE Academy aim was to improve the participants’ capacity to engage with researching complex issues in schools, by utilizing sound methodological and theoretical frameworks that help layer rather than only reduce complexity. Academy included dialogic lecturs, workshops, student presentations, feedback sessions and networking. Participants were from seven countries. University researcher Marjorita Sormunen, post doctoral researcher Suyen Karki and doctoral students Mari Mynttinen, Tanja Moilanen and Outi Turunen from UEF participated to the SHE Academy.

Meeting of Finnish PhD students in Nursing Science was held on November in Tampere. The idea of the meeting was to bring together the doctoral candidates in the field of nursing science and to promote the collaboration of the doctoral candidates. PhD students Katja Blomberg, Satu Leppälä, Jenni Hämäläinen, Anne Lunden, Matrja Hult, Jaana Seitovirta, Kirsi Hipp and Outi Turunen from the UEF participated to the meeting.
