NORDEN on the big football stage In May, NORDEN’s football team made its debut on the big football stage. The match took place at Farum Park, which is the home ground of the Danish Superliga club FC Nordsjælland. The opponent team was London Box Sash FC (LBSFC), who had travelled to Denmark to take on Team NORDEN, after having won the championship title in the amateur league Wimbledon & District Football League. NORDEN made a good start. But LBSFC quickly showed their strength and came out to the second half with overwhelming speed and with a win (2-8) to the visiting team – NORDEN showed itself as the good host! After the match both teams stayed at Farum Park to watch the Superliga match between FC Nordsjælland and AGF. This was part of a series of "summer stories from our NORDEN around the globe" archive. 40 students looked into the crystal ball In May, NORDEN, together with Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), held their annual joint workshop. The participants were 40 selected students from SMU and 5 NORDEN employees. The topic of the workshop was ”Outlook for the dry bulk shipping markets” with the subtitle “Managing volatility in dry bulk shipping markets – Know your risks”. The participants were split into 5 groups. The groups were able to discuss freely the topic of the workshop. The 10 students that demonstrated the most knowledge and enthusiasm on the topic were chosen as winners and received prizes for their participation. View from our CEO's office right now. Handysize product tanker KEREL passing by the head office in Hellerup, Denmark on her way to Vysotsk, Russia. KEREL is commercially operated by our subsidiary Norient Product Pool. Also notice the "sort of" blue sky and NO rain (at this very moment, at least) - which have otherwise not been the case for most of the school holiday here in Denmark ;-)

Thank you all seafarers for being #atseaforall – we wish you a good “Day of the Seafarer 2016”. NORDEN CEO Jan Rindbo: “ Seafarers all over the world are responsible for transporting 90% of the world’s trade and are thereby a crucial part of global trade – today we acknowledge their contribution – and I wish all seafarers, especially the NORDEN seafarers, a good Day of the Seafarer 2016.” Every year, 25 June is celebrated globally as the Day of the Seafarer, an official United Nations observance day. This year, once again, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is asking people everywhere to show their appreciation, through social media, for seafarers and their contribution to global prosperity. We rely on people who work at sea for over 90% of our household goods as well as for essential lifesaving services. This year, IMO's Day of the Seafarer campaign wants to celebrate seafarers and let the world know how and why seafarers are indispensable to everyone. IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim put it best when he said: "This year, on June 25th, the Day of the Seafarer, we are once again asking people everywhere to show their appreciation for the seafarers that quietly, mostly unnoticed, keep the wheels of the world in motion". Kasper Fritz Esmero, Painting Supervisor and NORDEN representative, had the pleasure of handing over a cash donation to Our Lady Of Providence(orphanage), Cebu, Philippines, from DS Orient's Fond. The Divine Providence Home is orphanage for about 30 girls who are disadvantaged, living on the streets or orphaned. The Superior Sister and the other Sisters help girls in vulnerable situations, in order to restore hope in life. The orphanage center has been around for 22 years managed by the congregation of the sisters of St. John the Baptist. The kids were very happy and the the Mother Superior expressed her appreciation as they could buy the needed school supplies for this coming school opening, and she said they could even pay for school enrollment fees. All the best to the girls and the Sisters.

Recently, our chartered Dry Cargo Panamax vessel BALTIA loaded grains in Santos, Brazil. After a port stay of 55 days (which is quite normal during the high season of grains export) the propeller was covered with large barnacles with a length of 30-50mm. The barnacles was removed by divers using hydraulic power tools and thereafter polished to obtain a smooth surface in order to gain maximum propeller efficiency. Marine fouling on the propeller is normally not a problem when the vessels is sailing. When the vessel is at berth or at anchor microscopic marine life is able to attach itself to the propeller (and hull) and grows into barnacles or seaweed etc with considerably loss of efficiency as a result. These very nice photos are provided by: Immersub & Co. Ltd. Thank you!
