Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Antwerp Port Authority stated that in the years to come, further growth is anticipated.

Today we bring you a history of the famous Atomium in 60 seconds! The Atomium, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, was constructed as the main pavilion for the world’s fair Expo 58 in 1958, hosted in Brussels. As Expo 58 was the first world’s fair after World War II, the Atomium represented the faith in scientific progress as a main driver of the progress for humanity at large. This giant, 165 times enlarged model representing an elementary iron crystal cell, is considered as a mixture of sculpture and architecture. Although initially supposed to be a temporary monument, the Atomium became a symbol of Brussels and a popular tourist attraction, containing an extraordinary museum which is visited by approximately 600,000 tourists per year.

Replika je od velike važnosti za povjesničare umjetnosti zbog izražene vjernosti originalnoj freski čije se stanje gubitkom pigmenta sve više pogoršava. Tongerlo Abbey, situated in Westerlo near Antwerp, has been since 1545 the home to a replica of Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper'. It is believed that two of the figures in the work were painted by Leonardo da Vinci himself, since there is no underlying sketch beneath the paint layer. Art historians attach great importance to this replica, not only because it is the most faithful, but because the original fresco in the church of Santa Maria Delle Grazie in Milan is increasingly less visible due to pigment fading. The replica is nevertheless in need of restoration and an American art historian has launched a fund campaign to have the work restored.

Belgijska tvrtka Keppel-Seghers u Hong Kongu je potpisala nekoliko milijardi eura vrijedan ugovor o gradnji prvog umjetnog otoka za obradu i zbrinjavanje otpada na svijetu! Belgian technology company Keppel-Seghers has signed a multi-billion euro contract in Hong Kong for the construction of the world's first artificial island for processing of refuse! Currently the household waste produced by Hong Kong's 7 million residents is simply sent to a rubbish dump, which has resulted in serious environmental concerns as the dumps are becoming full and their content is beginning to compose, producing methane gas, a much more dangerous greenhouse gas than CO2. The waste-to-energy island will be built off the coast of Shek Kwu Chau, where the waste will be incinerated in a way that respects the environment. The incinerator will produce enough green energy for 100,000 households and will help reduce Hong Kong's carbon emissions by 0,44 million tonnes per year.
