Winkler Fire Department
This past Sunday morning we had a curious child pull an "In case of Emergency" fire alarm on our second floor. Thankfully, our staff were able to turn off the alarms and find the source quite quickly. We will not be pressing charges for the false alarm, nor will we be asking the parents to cover the costs incurred from the incident. What we are asking, is something that we feel is much more valuable; As most of our local guests and citizens know, there was a terrible accident on Highway 32 just a few minutes later that same morning. Thankfully our alarm system does not automatically notify the Winkler Fire Department and did not tie them up with the false alarm. We are asking that parents take this as a valuable teaching opportunity. Please, take a quick moment to speak with your children about fire safety and emergency protocol/procedures. Please, explain the difference between an Emergency and a False Alarm and the chain reaction that starts once we dial 911 or pull that tempting red fire alarm. The consequences to this bout of curiosity could have led to a very different outcome for many people. Our prayers and thoughts are with all emergency crews, victims, families and friends that are affected by the accident this weekend.
