College of New Caledonia Announces a unique Scholarship Award for a local CNC Professional Cook program Student. Winner Nathan Mickey (far right) is the first recipient of the Brad Horen Memorial Award, which includes a job at local pizzeria Betulla Burning. CNC Professional Cook program Instructor Mandy Newcomb, Donor and Executive Chef for Betulla Burning Brian Quarmby and CNC Professional Cook program Instructor Anthony Rechsteiner were on hand for the cheque presentation today at Betulla Burning.
BC Health Minister Adrian Dix toured Northern Health’s Health Services Management Clinic at the College of New Caledonia today. He had a chance to speak with evacuees, health care providers and meet CNC’s Acting President Tara Szerencsi.

College of New Caledonia hosted Federal and Provincial ministers over the weekend for a tour of the Emergency Operations Centre. Ralph Goodale, Federal Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Harjit Singh Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, Carla Qualtrough, Federal Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Mike Farnworth, BC Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Doug Donaldson, BC Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and MPs Todd Doherty and Arnold Viersen also participated toured the evacuee registration area in the College, the Red Cross services, and an on-site health care clinic. They also participated in a meeting chaired by Mayor Lyn Hall that included an update on the Cariboo wildfires and an overview of the various services being provided to evacuees such as lodging, food, health care, transportation, registration, counselling and personal support, and information/communication.
