One of the many family friendly events held right here in Wetaskiwin!

Fact or Fiction? On August 4, 1959 an explosion at the bio-pharmaceutical plant led to what would be four horrible years of zombie rule in Wetaskiwin. Uninfected survivors banded together to create a gorilla-type resistance led by the 'Wetaskiwin 5' (pictured). The resistance's eventual victory was celebrated with the city's first official slogan: Zombie Free, Since '63. Although technically accurate (not counting a brief uprising in the summer of '71), tourists remained wary. In 1975, the local Chamber of Commerce decided to focus tourism efforts away from the walking dead and onto the newly formed Automile. (2013 Archives ad campaign poster)
