Outdoor Skating Rink Closed for the Season Due the effects of warm weather on ice conditions, the outdoor skating rink is now closed and will not reopen this season. Black Diamond honours Citizen of the Year, Yvonne Machan Turner Valley resident, Yvonne Machan, who has devoted the past year to combatting crime in our community, was named Black Diamond’s Citizen of the Year for 2017. Yvonne receives the award in recognition of her work implementing the Diamond Valley Citizens on Patrol (COP) program. Ms. Machan will be honoured at the annual volunteer appreciation dinner hosted by the towns of Black Diamond and Turner Valley in April. A plaque with her name on it will be featured in the Black Diamond municipal building. Turner Valley Council and staff offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to Ms. Machan for her outstanding volunteer contributions. The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is a FREE service available to residents who have low income and a simple tax situation. Residents of Turner Valley and Black Diamond can attend a Walk-in Tax Clinic or drop off the required information at the Town of Black Diamond office for completion by the designated volunteers. Turner Valley Residential Snow Removal Town staff are working to clear snow from streets, beginning work in residential areas tomorrow morning, March 7. Crews will be starting from Royal Avenue moving north, including Seclusion Valley. On Thursday, March 8, snow removal will begin on Frontenac Avenue and continue moving south. The Calgary Regional Partnership (CRP), a collaboration of 11 municipalities established in 2004, has decided to voluntarily wind down its operations effective February 28, 2018. “The CRP was a one of a kind entrepreneurial collaboration. Over the past 14 years, we successfully created and delivered on very ambitious goals to foster sustainable growth of the Calgary Region”, says Colleen Shepherd (CRP Executive Director). “I would like to thank all of the municipal leaders and community partners who have contributed to our success, as well as the Government of Alberta for their support and contribution.
