The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) is a community-based environmental agency. The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) is a community-based environmental agency that provides services to our watershed residents. We are responsible for the management of renewable natural resources in our watershed. We offer a broad range of programs, including watershed management, flood forecasting, and environmental education.

The LRCA provides opportunities for the public to learn from, enjoy and respect Ontario's natural environment. We improve quality of life by actively providing open space and protecting property from flooding and erosion, as well as restoring and conserving natural habitats. We offer field trips to our conservation areas and in-class programming. We also host annual public events and guest speakers.

We offer several annual programs as well as information on what homeowners can do to maintain the optimal health of the Watershed. Whether you’re planting trees, developing your property, or enjoying our conservation areas, it is all our responsibility to be Watershed Stewards.

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) has embarked on a six-month process to create our first strategic plan, which will play an important role in shaping the LRCA’s planning, decision-making, and collaboration with community partners over the five-year period from 2018 to 2022. Please attend an open house on Thursday, October 5 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the LRCA Administrative Office (130 Conservation Road, Thunder Bay), where you can review the draft strategic priorities and provide your input into the LRCA’s strategic plan. This session is a casual event where you can review the materials at a time convenient to you, and discuss the proposed priorities with the planning team. If you are unable to attend but would like to provide feedback, an online questionnaire will be available on Friday, October 6 at www.lakeheadca.com. We look forward to your input into our first strategic plan!

Can anyone tell what's missing from this picture? Well, we'll tell you: the newly-installed Explore Card information sign and a fresh "No Alcohol" sign. Not only were the signs removed, the metal post they were on was RIPPED OUT OF THE GROUND! If you have a problem with our rules and regulations, give us a call or come to our office for a visit. We assure you, however, that vandalism is not the answer. The LRCA are private landowners. We own, operate and maintain our Conservation Areas. We also pay property taxes on all of our properties. As private landowners (and under the Conservation Authorities Act), we are able to create and enforce rules and regulations for our property (including NO ALCOHOL). Now, if someone was on YOUR private property, doing something you didn't want them to be doing, how would YOU respond?
