Taber Police have been busy in the past 48 hours. Startled, the home owners awoke and scared the suspect away. Stolen from the home was a laptop and a purse. Shortly thereafter, another 911 call was received that that a male had entered another occupied home in the vicinity and was scared off by the occupants. It is our experience that parking laws are often known but, by some, rarely followed. The ease of pulling left wheel to curb, or stopping at your mail box facing the wrong way can be tempting. But each of these activities are against the Traffic Safety Act. From a safety perspective, to park against the flow of traffic means that, at some point, the driver must have driven in the wrong lane. This compromises public safety, is a poor driving habit, and can lead to collisions. Indicated in this post are the most common parking concerns we see as Taber Police. There are many more offenses, but these are the main offenses we see daily. We are enforcing these laws and ask that the public take note, pay attention, and obey the rules of the road and parking regulations. Park on a sidewalk/boulevard $78.00 Park on a crosswalk/part of crosswalk $78.00 Park within 5 meters of a stop/yield sign $78.00 Park within 5 meters of a fire hydrant $78.00 Park within 1.5 meters of a private driveway $78.00 Improperly parallel park (left wheel to curb) $78.00 Park within 5 meters near side of a marked crosswalk $78.00 We often see people make a U-turn to enter angle parking on the opposite side of the road. This is not permitted and U-turn tickets are often written for this offence. We ask that everyone pay a little more attention to the parking laws, not only for public safety, but also so you don’t end up paying a fine.
