The Sexsmith Fire Department responded to not one, but two structure fires yesterday. At approximately 12:15pm Sexsmith was called out to Clairmont for Mutual Aid support on a reported structure fire. A few hours later at approximately 6:30pm Sexsmith was called out again just a few miles out of Sexsmith, for another reported Structure Fire. The fires are still under investigation. The Sexsmith Fire Department works closely with all the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service stations and enjoys having a friendly working relationship with it's surrounding brothers and sisters of the fire service. We would like to congratulate Class 1 "T-Smith" Platoon (Sexsmith and Teepee Creek combined, they picked the name) on successfully completing Exterior Firefighter Operations: Firefighter 101 hosted by the Sexsmith Fire Departments Training Division. These men and women have given up 3 months of one weekend a month(Friday evenings, Saturday and Sundays) to learn, grow and become exterior firefighters. They are made up of Sexsmith and County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service Teepee Creek Stations. The 101 Training program developed by The Sexmsith Fire Departments Training Division, is meant to take probationary (brand new members) firefighters and give them knowledge on fire behavior, hose lines, hydrants, water supply, tools, basic building construction, ladders, ropes, knots etc (The basics) And prepare them for further training and allow them to become pager eligible and attend calls for service.

The Sexsmith Association for Fire and Emergencies would like to invite everyone to their first fundraiser dinner, in support for the Sexsmith Volunteer Fire Department. Sexsmith Fire Department would like to congratulate Sexsmith own Carter Rowney. Carter who plays with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and played with the Grande Prairie Storm scored his first NHL goal tonight. That first goal turned out to be the game winning goal and with the assists from earlier in the game, Carter was given the first star of the game. Congratulations from all of us at the SFD.

Firefighters from Sexsmith and Teepee Creek take a dip in the Sexsmith Heritage Pond for some valuable Ice Rescue Training. Sexsmith and area stations have Ice Rescue Technicians at the ready and also have newley certified Ice Rescue Instructors. This is just one of the many extra training opportunities firefighters in Sexsmith and the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service are able to take.
