West Wind Aviation is proud to be First Nations and Employee-owned.  Athabasca Basin Development, who represents the seven communities in the Athabasca Basin, is the majority shareholder the organization.  The Prince Albert Development Corporation also holds a percentage organization since 2002.  This alliance, along with employee ownership, has offered West Wind an opportunity for growth and expansion while continuing to build on the company’s strengths.

All of us at West Wind Aviation are devastated to learn of the passing of one of our passengers involved in the accident near Fond-du-Lac airport on Wednesday December 13, 2017. We are all overwhelmed with sadness of this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the passengers’ family and friends during this difficult time. The well-being of our passengers and crew remains our greatest priority. As the accident in Fond-du-Lac is investigated, we will continue to provide passengers and crew members involved in the accident with ongoing support including access to trauma counsellors. Out of respect for the family and those affected by the accident, we will provide no further comments at this time.

In the last 10 days, West Wind Aviation has pre-emptively and voluntarily suspended all flying operations. Yesterday, West Wind Aviation received a Notice of Suspension from Transport Canada. We are working diligently to resolve any issues, with the aim of restarting operations as soon as possible. Safety is our number one priority, and we look forward to improving our processes to continue to serve our communities and customers. We are committed to providing the highest standards of safety and service and will endeavor to reach a lasting resolution in cooperation with Transport Canada.

West Wind Aviation would like to offer trauma counselling for all individuals affected by the aircraft accident that occurred on December 13, 2017 near the Fond du Lac airport. This telephone line is strictly confidential and is provided so you can discuss any feelings, concerns or trauma you may be experiencing as a result of the accident. West Wind Aviation’s first concern is for our passengers and their families, first responders and all of our employees affected by the accident. At approximately 6:15pm on December 13th,2017, a West Wind Aviation ATR 42 aircraft was reported to have been involved in an accident near Fond du Lac Airport while enroute to Stony Rapids. There were Twenty -two passengers and three crew on board. Emergency authorities are on site and are assisting with passengers requiring any medical attention. There are no fatalities, and the extent of injuries is unknown. At this time the cause of the accident is unknown, and the Transportation Safety Board has been advised. I fly the Beechcraft 1900 and I previously worked Ground Services What is your favorite thing about working here? Every day has a different kind of challenge. The work has a lot of diversity. During your time off, what is your favorite thing to do? Play games, watch a good show, play with my kids If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why? My ancestors from several hundred years ago. I'm curious about who they are and how they lived. What is the most important thing you have learned in the last 5 years? The more I learn, the more I realize how little we actually know.

My current role is Chief Flight Dispatcher. Previous roles included Ramp, Checkins/CSR, Revenue Analyst/Ops Supervisor, Logistics Coordinator, Crew Scheduler & Licenced Flight Dispatcher What is your favorite thing about working here? The best part of working at WWA is the people I get to work with everyday. When you’re working with a great team, it makes the tough days/stressful times bearable, and the good days awesome! During your time off, what is your favorite thing to do? Spending time with my wonderful wife and 4 boys! If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why? Sir Winston Churchill. He was a man of courage, principal and had a sense of humor. He was not afraid to BE who he WAS without apology. What is the most important thing you have learned in the last 5 years? “When going through hell, keep going.”
